This is a very cool late 70s/early 80s (hard to be sure) Matsumoku fctory-produced Vantage bass. It's in outstanding condition - there's hardly a trace of fretwear, beautiful neck... the only real flaws besides a couple dimples in the clearcoat on the backside are a ding on top (pictured) and the fact that the pickup covers have cracks - one of them just about spilt in half. It's never bothered me though, and pickup covers are cheap.
The original case is included, and it has some external marks, as you might expect, but is overall in great shape - totally structurally sound.
The bass itself is a cool fusion of elements from various makers -the body shape is reminiscent of Kramers of the era, with an Alembic touch (it is NOT a neck through - it's a bolt-on). Dimarzio-type P looks cool with the cracked creme covers, and it's a 32" scale with a gibson-type high-mass bridge. The neck is a gibson-type shape with a high fretboard radius - very nice to play, and the short scale keeps it from being a neckdiver. Solid maple (I think) body, it is strung with rotosound 77 flatwounds and has a warm sound with a crispness to its thud.
Asking $400 plus shipping. I'd also be interested in trading it for an MIJ Jackson or Yamaha BB with a reverse P pickup (or almost any bass with a revrse P), or a short-scale bass with a high neck pickup as well as a bridge pickup (anybody got a Univox Hi-Flyer?) - try me with offers!
