Another bad economy sale here. I love this bass. Easily the nicest fretless I've ever owned but its not getting a lot of use right now so I'm selling. It was originally made as a fretted bass. Someone wisely converted it to fretless some time. Was not the cleanest job - there is some nicks in the fingerboard and they handled the zero fret in an odd way, but it sounds beautiful and the intonation is dead on. This bass originally sold for $4200. My low asking price reflects this less then perfect fretless conversion. Controls are volume, pan (between the magnetic and piezo pickups), and tone.
The bass was completed in June of 2006. It is actually the prototype for Veilette's production Archtop bass.
There was one Archtop bass built before this one as a custom order, but this is the first production instrument.
The truss rod recess says "Arch Bass 24", indicating that it has 24 frets. (At the time,
they still offered both 20-fret and 24-fret instruments.)
This bass (in its original fretted incarnation) was reviewed by Bass Player in May 2007.
You can see that review on The Veillette website under "Articles".
There is also a video clip of Jonathan Herrera demonstrating the bass, also on their website.
The top is cedar with a chambered poplar body. The softness of the thick cedar top really give the bass a nice 'acoustic' flavor by absorbing energy in a very different way than the poplar body core.
That's part of the whole concept with their Archtop instruments.
Let me know of any questions.
$1150 $1050 shipped to the lower 48 states. Includes its original gig bag.
I'm having trouble putting all my photos of the bass inline here. There are two thumbnails below, and here is a link to an album with the rest.
