FS/FT: Vintage 1981 Japanese Ibanez Blazer BL-700NT - 9/10 condition!

Looking to sell or trade this shockingly mint, all-original vintage Ibby. This 9-1/2 pound case queen shows almost no dings, damage, or even signs of use. The only thing I can see anywhere on it are a missing pickguard screw (which I've been meaning to get), a small nick on the edge of the fretboard/neck, near the 7th fret dot marker, a bit of wear on the neckplate, and some very light brass patina on the bridge and knobs.

The Blazer is a quirky little bass, too. The fretboard has an unusual tinting (or lack thereof) on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th fret position. I saw something like this in the "Black and Maple" thread, and I think it looks cool, in a subtle way. The keywinds are good quality gears, and they are shaped like hearts. I've heard Ibby fans refer to them as "sweethearts". Not for everybody, but I haven't seen anything but clovers, Ys, and a lollipop here and there...so cool, again.

Here's the Ibanez copy from catalog:
The Blazer Bass is the epitome of simple, straight forward bass design. The slim, one-piece neck features a flat, oval fingerboard for easy playing and the machined solid brass bridge will put you miles ahead in the sustain department. The Super P4 pickup has plenty of output and reinforced midrange for a warm, punchy tone. Whether you're just starting out or an old hand at basses, you're sure to appreciate the Blazer Bass.

Body - Solid Ash; Neck - One-piece Maple; Tuners - Hercules B; Scale - 34"; Pickups - Super P4; Controls - Volume, Tone; Bridge - Brass B1; Knobs - Solid Brass; Hardware - Nichrome; Finish - Natural Mat w/black pickguard

Quality-wise, it's as old school as it gets. The neck pocket is squeaky tight, the electronics clean, and the feel solid. All works as it should, and an eighth-turn on the truss rod is all it needs for a quick adjustment.

These basses were the predecessor to the Roadster (and later, Roadstar) basses. The Blazer came stock with the very highly-regarded Ibanez Super P4 pickups, with adjustable pole-pieces. From what I've read, they were made at the Fujigen Gakki facility, where several top-of-the-line instruments were being made at the time (BC Rich, SD Curlee, etc.).

Just browsing the threads, several TBers have said that these are some of the most under-rated basses around, and compared them favorably to the Fenders that were being produced at the same time. This bass has a great, punchy, vintage P-Bass tone, and it's output is much louder than my other basses at the same amp setting.

$425(obo) shipped CONUS, or trade for...?
I'm Currently eyeballing a VT Bass (or Deluxe), Roland PK-5a bass pedals, or other cool stuff. I have a case for it, but it's probably older than the bass, and easily 25 lbs. I could ship it with or without, but the extra cost (to the buyer) may not justify the ugly (but solid) chunk of tolex-covered plywood.

And the photography:

First in, with a big grin! Love these basses. Good bass, bad timing.

This bass is all kinds of 80s funky. Is that a four piece body? Wild grain, no stain. I haven't played one of these, but I did play a similar, old Ibanez P-bass awhile back and it was fun and funky. I was able to get some thick, ganky, G&L-ish slap tones out of it. A little Larry Graham, a little Geezer Butler.

Okay, I'll stop now.

EDIT: Just noticed the hearts -- cute! Embrace your, err, sweet side while you lay the smack down.

Thanks, Laz I've got enough basses...err...my 6-bass stand is full, and Mrs.Engine says no basses are to spill from my studio to our bedroom. I'm really jonesing for a set of Roland bass pedals. Either the PK-5 or the PK-5A.

Actually, it's the Roadstar's granddaddy. I was actually looking for one of those when I found the Blazer. It is really fun to play, sounds super punchy and has a great "old school" feel...kinda like my Peavey T-40.

Ain't heard from the pre-new year potential buyer. Ok by me. My son and I are enjoying playing this killer bass for a little longer!

2012 bump!
