FS/FT: Vintage Ibanez Roadstar II P/J project

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's a project for someone who wants to do a little work and have a great cheap beater bass. It's a vintage Ibanez Roadstar II (RB650) that just needs a few things to be brought back to serviceable condition.

What you get: all the original parts to the bass EXCEPT the Jazz pickup, and one strap button. You also get a complete set of MIA Fender P/J pickups (as sold to me recently by a fellow TBer). These alone are worth a decent amount.

So, to review: you need to wire it up (and you'll have one P pickup leftover), and add a strap button. What else do you need to know? Well, it's got lots of dings including one on the bottom end with lots of paint chipped off, and there's a ding on the treble side of the fretboard that you can feel if you play it a certain way. Also, the pickguard has been spraypainted a parchment color (obvious if you see it up close). I think that's all the disclosure necessary. (Note: in the pics below it's mocked up with the MIA pickups, and the electronics pic shows the original Ibanez P pickup.)

I'll probably ship it with the neck removed. No case. Price is $120 shipped to lower 48. May be open to trades, but cash preferred.

I have this bass---it is sitting here right now. Its really vibey. It plays and sounds incredible....cant do the Jaco solo J bridge thing but besides that has a whole different amazing PJ thing altogether. This project could really be worth it....the MIJ 86 Roadies are super underrated in me mind and way better than all the 300 plus chinese indo stuff out there these days. Just my opinion---good luck with the sale!

Thanks! Yeah, these are pretty much an open secret around here anymore - everyone seems to know how much potential they have for the money. Anyway, this one just needs a little elbow grease - but it's dirt cheap!

Couple trade offers responded to. And to clarify this in public: I might consider selling the Fender pickups separately, but it will be a much better deal this way for someone. And I don't want to part out anything else besides that.

Yeeeeah! Mine mine mine! ... And in a few weeks I'll have Charlie Monroe's as well. I so greedy! One more boomerang baby! Why do they so rarely come with both? Why? Why?!?!?!?!?
