FS/FT: Vintage MusicMan Stingray $1800obo

Greetings all. Long time lurker, first time poster. For sale is my '79/80 Pre EB Stingray. Its in great shape for a bass of its vintage and plays very well. Its got the normal wear and tear for a 30 year old instrument you'd expect including paint chips and whatnot. The only modification done to it is somebody previously added a bottom jack in lieu of the faceplate on but that was removed before it got to me. All electronics remain original and in perfect working order. This bass is a dream to play and has a very different tone than my EB by way of a much thumpier sounding pickup and preamp system. Its got a maple board and comes in an awesome translucent red stain, original of course. The pickguard shown on it is unoriginal and will be staying with me as it is a home spun jobby that I wish to keep. Not a big deal to replace as the EB ones share the same dimensions. If there are any questions, feel free to ask. Things I may be interested in trading for: American or Japanese Fender Tele's, P or J basses, vintage japanese hollowbody guitars or especially basses, higher end recording gear (no mbox or other such stuff) but I'm more interested in funds toward an EB2!

I think that's an early to mid 80's SR, definitely not a '79 or '80. I don't think any 79s or 80s had a four-bolt neck or that finish. What's the serial number on it?

The 4-bolt neck plates started showing up around '79-'80 according to the database.

Lincoln1, if you want to look up the serial number then here is the link:
http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/TOWN8019...ompage0011.htm

You could also pull the neck loose and there should be a date stamp on the end of the neck. If you do this don't forget to snap a photo.

Also, it might make this thread much easier to read if put each individual photo link on a separate line. You should be able to go into the original thread and edit that. The photos will line up vertically rather than horizontally.

And TB rules do say that you have to specify a price.

+1 on price. Also, anyone interested in this bass is going to want to know the weight, so you might want to go ahead and post that too.

Hey thanks for everybody chiming in! It's really helpful for me. I generally hang out on the guitarscanada website and bass players are more scarce there! The serial # is B022772 which from what I can tell from the link above puts it between '80-82? The drilled hole was there when I got it and the fellow told me he had wanted it to be more like the Ernie ball version (I was angry when I got it because it was advertised as an Ernie ball and I thought it sucked because it wasn't- I was 16). In spite of that, the electronics appear to be original and it certainly sounds way different than my EB. I don't have a scale but it's gotta weigh close to 10 pounds or so. It's heavy! I'll try and pull off the neck in the next day or so to confirm age. I have been looking to get around $1800ish for it but if that is out to lunch, let me know. I just seem to see them at about $2500+ in the same shape minus the hole and figured that was reasonable. Cheers everybody!

if you go to the actual ernieball forums, there is a thread where ernie ball will directly give you information on your bass from it's serial number. Trust me...they have EVERYTHING on file. Oh LOOK. What do you know.... I have it linked right here

I'm sure there is but I've personally made no mention of fleabay so I figured it's fine same as it's on CL, etc.

being a top load bridge instead of strings through body would make it an 81-83 bass.

the extra hole in the body may mean it was a 3 band EBMM body which of course will make it an even later vintage (the neck though seems like a 79-83 MM).
