FS/FT: Warwick Streamer Bolt-On 5

Sign in to disble this ad
I got this bass from a dear friend and hate to sell it, but it's not getting used in my current gigs and needs a new home.

I thought this was an LX5, but thanks to Bassbooty, I now know it's a Streamer Bolt-On, which preceded the LX5, which makes sense, as according to Warwick, the LX line wasn't introduced until 1996, and this one's serial number indicates it was made in 1994. As far as I can tell it has a swamp ash body and the neck is a 7-piece combo of maple and wenge (I think).

This has been my go-to bass for the past four or five years in about half a dozen different bands and projects and has a decent amount of wear. I've kept it waxed and polished and done regular upkeep and maintenance on it, but it's been played a lot and it shows it. In short: there are scratches and dings.

The neck is fairly substantial but less chunky than some Warwicks I've played.

This bass also has the original brass Just-a-Nut.

Electronics are two band MEC preamp (9v) and MEC J-style pickups. Controls are volume, blend, bass, and treble. The volume knob is also push-pull for active-passive operation.

Currently strung with D'Addario Chromes but will ship with the Ken Smith steel rounds I usually use on it.

The hallmark of this bass is it's tight tone. It's even and articulate across all 5 strings. Flatwounds give it a bit of a vintage vibe, but it's definitely a crisp, modern sounding bass.

Ships in an appropriately worn Warwick Rockbag.

Asking $875.00 shipped in the lower 48.

I'm definitely open to trades, with particular interest in Schroeder cabs (1212 or 1210), an upright, a new Fender P-bass 5, a Stingray 5...and lots of other stuff...don't hesitate to run something by me.
Thanks,
J.

Very interesting

Can't really tell from the pics, but IME ash has greater contrast between the dark & light grain. Dunno what else it might be, though. Very pretty- I've always wondered how Warwick's maple necks compare w/wenge.

Disclaimer: One too many strings(for a WW)for me, sorry.

Agreed. The grain seems to pop better from certain angles, none of which I managed to capture in the pictures. Ash was the closest guess I could make. I'll see if I can take some more close-ups and maybe we can all solve the mystery

It almost looks like the afzalia on the SSIIs to me.

Does this model have the concave back?

Cool!

Some of the LXs don't and they absolutely suck to wear.

That would be the Streamer Standard. AFAIK, all LX's are concave.

This model was called the Streamer Bolt-On and had the primarily maple neck.

The Streamer LX was introduced later & featured an all Wenge neck.

Cool! Thanks for the information!

Also, here's another pic, this time in natural light without the flash to show off the grain.

Clip #2

Here's a little finger funk thing I dashed off, replete with cheesy beat. Pickup blend is about 75/25 bridge/neck and the bass is boosted a tiny bit.

Bump for a killer bass! If it's still around when I get my FNA Jazzman sold, I'll be on it.

Close up of the neck joint. I found these cracks. I don't think they're an issue, but I definitely wanted to make sure I brought it up.

Edit: 12/4 - I was doing some general upkeep and maintenance tonight and decided to take the neck off and get a closer look at those cracks. No worries, they're minor and I drop filled them with super glue so I'm confident there'll be no issue. Thanks.
