FS/FT Westone Thunder I $400

See Welcome to www.westone.info :: The resource for Westone guitars for information on this undervalued brand. In part:

This site is devoted to the Westone brand of guitars and basses made originally by Matsumoku of Japan from 1981 to 1987/88, and subsequently by SLM from 1987/88 to 1991. Whether you already own a Westone guitar or are considering buying one, this site will give you the most accurate information about Westone guitars and basses that you can find.

Anyone familiar with these basses will tell you they were extremely well made instruments. Often better than American made of the same timeframe. This particular instrument dates back to 1982 and is the best "precision" style bass I've owned to date.

Neck is reasonably wide and flat. Hardware is brass throughout. Electronics are passive and quiet. Strings are medium tension flats with blue silks. Frets have a lot of life left. (In part because of my preferring flatwound strings.) Body is laminated ash, maple and walnut. 3-ply maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, brass nut., 34 inch scale 20 frets.

Original hard shell case included. Some tolex beginning to peel, but otherwise structurally sound. NOTE: Pictured strap and stand NOT included. Kala uke bass considered in trade.

Thanks Keith! I'm so bad. If I'm real honest, I'll be relieved if all of these don't sell, yet I NEED/WANT the $$$ for Sturgis. That's why I'm resisting a longer trade list too.

I guess if this one does sell, I'll need to get an old Electra I've had in the "round to it" bin going.

Excuse my ignorance but are Westbury basses connected in any way to Westone?
"Westbury guitars were manufactured in Japan by the Matsumoku Industrial Company, who also made guitars for Guyatone, Fujigen Gakki, Kanda Shokai, Hoshino, Nippon Gakki(Yamaha), Aria, and Norlin amongst others. Production of Westbury guitars ran from around 1978 to 1982.

I think you answered you're own question Epidrake: Yes in that both were made by Matsumoku along with Electra, Quest... maybe Arbor... Aria I think and probably a few more I'm forgetting. As to whether Westbury and Westone were somehow corporately related, that I don't know.

Note: Family emergency forces me out of town for about a week. I may be a little slow in responding while gone and obviously won't be shipping till I'm back.

Thanks GM2.
I guess we will never know. I do know that the Westbury's were imported by the same guys that brought in the Univox stuff on Long Island. The company was Unicord.
