Here's an excellent example of custom handcrafted instrument. This Wyn fretless five (lined) was made by Randall Fullmer (Wyn Bass Guitars). Randy is a Master Luthier who only produces 25 to 30 instruments a year. He has crafted instruments for Jimmy Haslip and Abraham Laboriel to name a couple. Do some research, you won't find anything but stellar reviews of the instruments he produces.
The materials and craftsmanship that went into this bass are absolutely top shelf. I've never seen better. The action is low and fast. From the pictures that follow you can see that this instrument was completed in September 2012. The latest price list I saw indicates that to reproduce this bass you'd be north of $5,000 and then there would be a LONG waiting period (around a year). He builds them by hand himself.
