This is a 1991 vintage (I believe) Yamaha MB-2 Motion II Bass. It was one of the first instruments made in Taiwan after Yamaha moved it's manufacturing there from Japan. The build quality is excellent and certainly equal IMO to the basses built in Japan.
It's in incredible condition for it's age and so is it's OHSC. There is only one nick that goes through the finish (can be seen in the headstock photo) and other than that there are only a few minor impressions in the finish. Most of these that I have seen are VERY beat-up. This one is really close to perfect.
The finish on the bass is pearlescent white. It has hues of pink and green in it's finish and there is a slight sparkle in it. Very pretty in person!
The bridge is the rather rare model with knurled fine tuning adjustment screw for each string. Its completely intact and works very smoothly. A very nice feature for sure.
Electronics are a pair of passive Yamaha soapbars with V/V/T knobs like a traditional jazz bass layout.
The scale on this bass appears to be between 32" and 33". The string spacing at the bridge is 19mm and it weighs exactly 7.46 lbs on my digital scale.
The bass plays and sounds very good. Particularly for a shorter scale instrument. No neck issues and the truss rod adjusts the neck as it should. Action is set medium low right now but could go either way without a problem.
This would be a great bass for someone with smaller hands or anyone who is more comfortable with a shorter scale bass.

Yes, it certainly is the same model. The only difference I see are that it does not have the writing on the body and it has black knobs instead of gold ones.
How would you describe the tonal character/personality of the bass... comparing it to other brands or styles of basses?
Well I really don't have too much experience with basses shorter than 34" scale however I would say this bass is somewhere between a P Bass and a Jazz Bass as far as it's tone goes. Check out the link to the video of AWB that's posted earlier in this thread. That guy is playing with a pick but that is pretty much the way the bass sounds.
