FS: G&L semihollow JB2 (one of a kind USA prototype)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Y'all,

This is a truly one-of-a-kind G&L: a USA made JB2 semihollow prototype. It's nice and light at 8.2lbs, is finished in fullerton red (I call it tomato soup red) and has a 1.5" nut width satin finished neck (probably a #8). In excellent condition it comes in a G&L tolex case with COA (certificate of authenticity).

Pickups are a standard pair of G&L single coils (I assume, I've not pulled them to make sure but they sound like the standard JB2 pickups) and controls are vol/vol/tone. I've modified the neck volume with a push/pull pot to give series/parallel switching for another tonal option (more beef down low, slightly muted highs but still with J-bass grind/edge).

Overall I'd say the semihollowness isn't really represented in any tonal difference from a "standard" JB2 (IMHO). It does make sure the weight is good and the f-hole looks great.

I'll miss it as it's my lightest G&L right now and has a great j-bass tone (even for me, and I'm not a big j-bass fan) but I'm doing some cabinet collection updating and have to pay the neodymium piper.

$825 $775 $725 shipped in the contiguous 48, paypal OK -- I was asking more in my previous thread, this is a price drop

I'll consider shipping internationally - let me know your country and I'll see if my box will work whole or if we'd have to go with a disassembled bass not in the case.

Although I need cash to pay for rare earths I'd consider the following trades:

G&L fretless: 1.5" nut width, under 9lbs, satin neck, L2K or SB2 preferred
G&L SB2 (1.5" nut width, under 9lbs, satin neck)

Let's try another price drop - I'm taking it in the shorts but am feeling the need for a fretless and am already hyperextended on the gear front so somethings gotta move

A "cripes that's a great deal, why no buyer?" bump. I already have more basses than I need, that's my excuse.

OK, while doing some shipping estimates for folks I got the tolex G&L bass case it came in out of the attic and wow, it really doesn't fit the bass very well. Barely wider than the bass body and the opening in the foam/padding isn't wide enough for the bass. I can wedge it in there with a little elbow grease but it's not a case that I'd want to use with any regularity. If desired I could ship in a G&L gig bag instead.

Looking it over the only things I noticed were are recessed (not flush, actually recessed) control cavity cover (a bit odd, maybe a side effect of being a prototype?) and the fretboard looks like it could use a drink. I don't have the supplies to condition a fretboard but it could probably use it.

A little lemon oil will fix the fingerboard. I've had G&L's before with arecessed control plate.
An at this price why in the hell is this still available bump.......

Chef passed a while back.

I've had flush, on the back (no recess at all for the cover) and now this more deeply recessed control cavity cover. Like many G&L things it seems to vary.

I've added an SB2 to the trade options (I always come back to L2Ks and SB2s).

2nd gen - I've never found a 1st gen with a 1.5" nut width (pretty much all the ones I've come across are 1-5/8")
