This is an Original Gary Willis Signature Bass, built in 1999 at the Fujigen, Japan Ibanez custom shop (serial # F9925003). I bought it because my bass teacher (
David Hilton) had one and he sounded awesome on it:
I never got to that level, so I'm passing it on.
When I bought it, it came without one of it's most innovative features, the
Willis Ramp. I took the the ramp from David's GWB1 to a custom carpentry shop in San Diego (
Studio Europa) and they helped me recreate it to just about the exact dimensions and using the same type of wood (ash).
The instructions from the Gary Willis website say to use double-sided tape to adhere it, but this one is attached using poster putty which seems to work even better because it allows the ramp to be adjusted after it's in place.
The body of this bass has a fair amount of light scratching. The ebony fretboard is in very good condition.
