1990 Godin Acousticbass for sale.
Really nice bass but I'm going to stick with short scale basses.
The Godin Acoustibass is the predecessor to the current A4 model. It is semihollow, light (my guess is around 6 to 7 lbs) and has some internal "resonators" to sound as acoustic as possible. It has an LR Baggs piezo bridge pickup and preamp with 3-band EQ built-in. $290.00 $250.00 plus shipping
If you live a few hours from central Va I can meet up in person (only if buying for sure not to just look at it)
The good:- Pretty good shape for being 20 years old.
- I put a set of unused $50.00 La Bella Deep Talking black nylon tape wound strings on it.
- Really nice sound especially with the tape wound strings
- Fingerboard is in very good shape. Has normal wear but is smooth.
- Volume across the strings seems pretty even to me.
- Intonation is spot on with the side markers which start at the 3rd fret
- no hard shell case included but I will throw in a gig bag.
The issues:- The bridge has lifted (see pic) It's an easy fix for someone that works on acoustics. Just a matter of taking the bridge off then getting the old glue off then re-gluing it. should not cost more than $50.00 ? Action is still not bad even though the bridge has lifted.
- The back plate is missing. Not sure why it was even taken off as it was originally glued on. Godin does not have any replacement parts. I've emailed Jennie pickguard a few times and am still waiting on a response for how much a replacement will cost but I would think not that much. Does not effect anything as far as I can tell.
- Some dings and scratches on the top and back but nothing major
- A little neck heavy which is common with these basses. Maybe changing the tuners to Hipshot Ultralite tuners would help ?
- A dead spot on the G string 7th fret (I don't know anything about dead spots but the note does not sustain as long as the others)
- the electronics are scratchy but do work well.
- A couple of the bridge pins fit a little loose in the bridge so I used some masking tape to tighten the fit.
I listed a lot of issues (no surprises when you get the bass) so that is why the price is low. These usually go for $400.00 on the used market. There is one on E-Bay right now for 600 (though that is probably too high a price).
Despite the issues I listed this bass in still very playable. Was just playing it at lunch and it sure sounds good !
