Here we have an MTD Kingston Artist that has been wonderfully modded and she only has one blemish.
First the good stuff: Typical MTD goodness: 35" scale, 19mm spacing at the bridge, 8.5 lbs, asymmetrical neck -- plays like a dream. Comes with the stock black pearloid pickguard as well as the custom clear one shown on the bass. Newly strung with GHS nickels.
Here's the extra stuff: The bass has been professionally modded with a Nordstrand 5.2 pickup AND a Bartolini 3-band preamp. The controls are Bass, Mid, Treble, Volume (with push/pull active/passive), AND a passive tone control. It's like Sadowsky's Vintage Tone Control because it works in both active and passive modes.
Now the Blemish: There are a couple of dings in the clearcoat
(pictured below) inside of the upper horn. There's not visible from more than five feet away but in the spirit of full disclosure, there they are. Aside from that the finish is in perfect condition -- no buckle rash, no dings, no nothing.
What about the sound?: It sounds like a monster. Clear, crisp Nordstrand goodness, tamed by Bartolini warmth but big, HUGE tone. Like any bass with a GREAT MM pickup, it can be aggressive as you like but with the VTC and 3-band preamp, you have the chance to dial it down considerably. This is a really nice instrument. If not for wanting a DJ and my wife just buying me a HH Bongo, I'd be keeping this one.
EDIT: Off the Market for now.
