FS/FT: Guitar Factory 6-string

This is the Guitar Factory 6-string bass that's been on Talkbass for a while. It still is a great player, and other than some battle scars on the headstock, and the usual swirls around knobs, it's in pretty good shape.

Asking $850 $750 shipped this week only!!! Next week it's back to regular price!

Possible Trades (+/- cash depending on value)
5-string Jazz Bass style - 19mm spacing
Brubaker imported 5s

Here's the last thread on it: Guitar Factory 6-string bass
My pics here: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B0...it?usp=sharing

Addtl specs:
34" scale, 16.5mm spacing. somewhere around 10-10.5 lbs.

Bump for Guitar Factory's killer basses, totally worth it. I have two of them...a 4 and a 5. Great necks. The guys who made it started with Michael Tobias and helped make the first Tobias basses when he was in Orlando. Michael left and they stayed.

Electronics

Pickups are EMG 45, I believe both are DCs, but I haven't taken them out to look.
The preamp is the EMC BQC, which is Treble/Bass stacked, and Mid/Freq stacked, plus Volume & Blend.

As to when it was made, I honestly have no idea what year, but according to Flatwound (who I got the bass from), "It was originally made for Gard Lewis, long before he worked for Roscoe. Gard used it to ply his trade on the streets of New Orleans."

Edit: Found Gard's listing, it was made in 1997: FS ONLY: Guitar Factory Fretted 6
Gard, hope you don't mind if I link to your thread for the bass's history & specs.

I'm 99% sure that the pickups are a 45J (neck) and a 45CS at the bridge. It is, of course, easy to swap in any 45-sized pickups because of the quick connectors. I thought it had a Stingray-ish tone with the bridge pickup favored. Great bass all the way around.

Ok, I am seriously considering this bass as an option. How do you think it would compare to other high-end boutique basses? Problem for me is that I want modern quality but can't justify spending over 2k for a bass. That's just me. But I also don't want to get something like what I had, an MTD that was made in Korea. I'm gonna need something a bit nicer.

I'd say it easily holds its own compared to my Elrick & MLP basses in terms of construction quality. And the only signs that show its age are the battle scars, and the bridge tarnishing. I've looked it over, and I don't see anything that would indicate less than stellar, boutique quality construction.

I know sound is subject to taste, but I think if one is after some type of tight, modern/contemporary sound, this bass nails it. And if one likes to fiddle with onboard EQ, that opens up a much wider range of tones.

In my opinion, if it had a more well-known name, it would be selling for considerably more. The only reason I sold it was that I quit playing six-stringers.
