FS: Heartfield DR-4 Redburst (Poor Man's Wal!)

Sign in to disble this ad
For sale is my Heartfield DR-4 four string bass in Redburst in non-original hardshell case.

I bought this one as a backup to my DR-4 in graphite finish which was once listed on the TB boards but I ultimately could not part with it!

I've decided to let this one go as I have a few other DR's including a 5er in this color.

I absolutely love these basses. They were created and manufactured in Japan in the Fujigen factory. They were soon acquired by Fender (around 1990/1991) who was looking to expand their line of "design forward" instruments to compete with the likes of Ibanez, etc.

These basses are some of my favorites to play and the best buy out there in "vintage." This bass features two noiseless jazz pickups designed by EMG, Volume, blend, tone and an active /passive switch. In passive mode the tone control is just that. in active mode the tone control is a mid sweep which creates that very active tone that Wal's are know for. Kind of a "mwah" as you sweep the frequencies. Like the Wal, this also features an XLR output jack.

The tone of the bass itselff is also incredible. The bass features a "tri-lam" neck which features a layer of graphite compsoite between the neck and fingerboards. This eliminates dead spots without sacrificing the warm tone of wood.

The bass is lightweight, well balanced and has nice wide 19mm string spacing.

This bass is in very clean overall condition. There are some little compression dings here and there as pictured, with only one or 2 to the wood but in veyr unnoticeable areas. The most visible flaw is that the former owner dug his thumb in above the bridge PU in the wood, resulting in some deep scratches. These scratches are not through the wood but because of their depth create the illusion of being to the wood as they contrast the sheen of the bass.

The knobs were upgraded to black Warwick style knobs. To get this back to stock just get the allparts rubber grip instruments knobs as used in the Fender P Lytes. Those are the exact knobs that come from the factory.

I am asking $425 shipped in the CONUS for this bass whic is a very fair price for this bass in this condition. A 5 string just sold on ebay recently for $800 plus shipping!

If you are an international TB-er or otherwise outside the CONUS, please contact me first so we can see if a sale is feasible and on what terms.

Pics are below. Enjoy!

Thanks.

Nice one. I almost bought this very bass on Ebay just weeks ago (you beat me to it while I was noodling over it). I knew that I should have grabbed it then
