FS: Heartfield DR5 Five String MIJ (Poor Man's Wal)

Sign in to disble this ad
For sale is a 1989Heartfield DR5 in a gig bag. The bass was made in Japan at the legendary Fujigen factory.

For those of you who don't know about Heartfields, they are a well-kept secret. I call these basses "the poor man's Wal" because they incorporate filter-based active electronics, like the Wal. Activate the toggle switch to go from regular active electronics to the filter. I recorded several tracks on my college band's CD using the six-string version of this bass, and indeed you can hear the Wal-like growl for a fraction of the cost.

I am blowing this one out as it has a little mojo and requires a very tiny bit of work. Two minor issues are the toggle switch is bent so it spins (although it works perfectly fine).

Asking SOLD shipped CONUS in a gig bag which is way less than these sell for.

Pics below. Please PM any questions. Would consider trades if you have something cool but prefer cash.

Thanks.

I had a blue one for years & recorded a lot with it. In fact, you can hear an identical bass on the Texas Tornados cd "Hangin' On By A Thread" on the track "La Grande Vida" on Reprise Records. I know because I played bass on that track. Bill Halverson who was Clapton's producer was the guy in charge & he loved it because he said Willie Weeks was recording with one at the time. These basses sound great & sometimes I wish I still had mine. You won't be disappointed.

I believe it is 19mm but may be 18. It's wide which is why these are so great to play. For me anyway! How would I measure exactly? Center of one saddle to the other with a ruler?

You can probably also find out on Heartfield Central

Thanks for the interest guys!

Free bump for a killer bass. I just laid hands on an '88 reverse red burst and it is just great. One cannot say enough about these 'lost classics'. For the $, you just cannot beat the tone.

Happy new year bump! I noticed a lot of errors in my description asicopied from my dr4 listing. This is a dr5 with a little mojo but it has all the goods in spades. Killer filter electronics and nice wide string spacing and a killer B string. blowing this one out but reasonable best offers or trade offers are welcome. thanks!

Update-- the missing height adjustment screw from the A string bridge saddle has been replaced so this is no longer an issue!

I will post a new picture soon
