I know it is a stupid question but there are so many GWB models I just wanted to be sure we are talking about the same thing. My appologies. Bass is in good shape? Thanks

It's got a real ebony board and not the plastic that they're using now. Bass is in very good shape. A little buckle rash in the back and the volume is a tad noisy and just needs a spray of contact cleaner but this bass would be $3999 today. |

I think that is actually $2999. But still plenty of money in any case. "Alot of people prefer the ebony over the newer versions ebanol board."
Just to be clear, Gary himself likes the Ebonol just fine. Never tried it myself, though. I think in the GWB promo videos that Ibanez has posted Gary says that they had to tweak the preamp settings for the newer ebonol boards. Here is a spirited GWB-1 jam I found on the 'tube.
Gliss' on.

The GWB 1 has an ebony fingerboard.
The GWB 105 has an ebonol fingerboard.
The GWB 1005 has an ebonol fingerboard, and is built in the equivalent of Ibanez's "custom shop" - one luthier (I believe) works on each bass from start to finish. The price bumped up considerably from the 105 to the 1005.
I have a GWB1, and it is an incredibly playable, great sounding fretless bass.

Seems like the GWB1s were ~$1500 new, and progressively higher for the later GWB105s and GWB1005s. I've got a GWB35 and indeed they are extremely playable basses, enough to make me at least fantasize about upgrading to a GWB1*. But how could someone like me tell the difference between the three from a picture posted here on TB? Even the OP of this thread wasn't sure which one he had.
Your ACG preamp looks interesting, BTW. |

Your ACG preamp looks interesting, BTW. | The only way you can tell is by the fingerboard, probably also by the serial number. Hard to tell from photos.
I *think* that the 1's and 105's were priced about the same, adjusted for inflation. The big jump came with the 1005.
Regarding the ACG - for *me*, the bass totally came alive when I put that in. I'm not a fan of 2 band pre's so the stock Bart NTBT didn't do it for me. I probably would have been happy with a Bart 3 band, but I LOVE the ACG. Growl for days and days.

Nothing's wrong with the preamp. It blows any anything I have played including the $500 pope preamp I have in my custom bass. |
