This is a Japanese-made Kay bass from the '70s. It's in really good condition for it's age with just a few dings and scratches, actually less than you'd expect in a bass like this. There is also some wear on the pickups and the pickup surrounds from playing. It's currently sporting a set of old roundwounds and is set up with a fairly low action. The pickups and electronics all work fine. I cleaned the pots today with Caig Deoxit and replaced the output jack with a Switchcraft one. The 2 screws holding the bridge cover have also been replaced as the originals were completely stripped out. The flowers on the raised pickguard are worn off, which is typical for these basses.
The neck is not seated in the pocket perfectly straight at the moment. It's still playable but you may want to add a shim on the bass side to push it over a bit.
It has a great thumpy sound to it thanks to the huge pickups. Also, don't forget the awesome lawsuit headstock!!
Looking for $175 $150 shipped on this.

Played it through the mic jack of my stereo. Luckily I had hefty 15" stereo speakers. Sounded pretty darn good too. Mine was the more common red color. Talk about flashbacks! |
