I have a beautiful handmade 5 string Kinal MK5-B. The pics aren't the best and don't do it justice. This bass was built June 1999 - the body is swamp ash with a Bubinga top. Rosewood fingerboard. The neck wood is birdseye maple. Graphite reinforced, (21 frets) 35"scale. It has an A style bridge...fully adjustable....The bass is in excellent condition. Comes with a hard case.
There is a volume control, a pickup pan knob, High Mid and Low EQ for up to 12db of boost/cut. Active preamp 18V electronics.
The pickups are the Bartolini BD series soapbar. The bridge pickup is a triple coil.
There are also three switches:
The first switch is a 3 way toggle, giving you single, series and parallel sound.
There is a 2 way switch for the preamp. Flat (all EQ controls bypass) or active - enabling the 3 band EQ.
The last switch is 3 band eq for the midrange control, you can choose between 250hz, 500hz, and 750hz for shaping the mids.
The Volume knob is a pull toggle for a volume boost.
The case is a little road worn but still functional.
All body cavities came fully shielded with copper foil.
I realize that all these controls sound intimidating, but its simple, and you really can't get a BAD sound out of this bass. The controls give this bass the ultimate versatility.
Here's the website.
http://64.180.97.138/kinal/bass.htm Mike Kinal is an incredible luthier taking his time and making a quality product. With a little research, you will find nothing but praise for his work. The serial number is #47!, so you know there's extensive time put in to each piece.
This bass plays and sounds incredible. It is capable of getting almost any tone, vintage to modern, woody, to smooth. I've owned high end Laklands, Pedullas, Yamahas, and Fenders, NOTHING has compared to this bass. I really thought I would keep this bass forever, but my current gig aesthetically calls for a 5 string Fender J and funds are tight.. My loss, your gain... $1400 shipped
I'm on the road right now and internet is here and there. I'll be checking when I can, so, I guess the first $1400 message takes it!
Thank you.
