FS: Kinal SKB-5 - Ice Tea Burst Beauty

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a beautiful Kinal SKB-5 that was built in February 2003 by Michael Kinal at his shop in Canada. Due to increasing pain in my left hand I have decided to part with all of my remaining 35" scale basses.

The body wood is alder with a flame maple top. The scale is 35" on a Pau Ferro fretboard.

The Bartolini pickup combination is one of my favorites and coupled with Mike's innovative preamp, this bass is capable of generating some really monstrous tones. This is a "big stage" rock bass if I ever played one. It really stands out in a loud live mix.

The controls are Volume -push/pull active or passive, Treble, Mid, Bass and Blend controls. The switches are passive (Flat setting) mid switch and back pickup coil selector(front coil, both coils or back coil).

The bass weighs 9.10 lbs on my digital scale and the string spacing at the bridge is 18mm. The bass has Schaller strap buttons and balances great.

There are a few minor dings in the finish as you can see in the photos. It's really minor stuff and it never bothered me.

The bass comes with a "like new" Gator molded HSC (keys included)

I hate to let this one go but it pains me (literally) to play it these days so I must.

SOLD! Price Reduced to $1,250.00 $1,495.00 OBO shipped and insured in the continental US.

PayPal, Cashiers Check or US Postal Money Order gladly accepted.

I "might" be interested in a trade for a 34" scale 4 or 5 string as long as I was able to get some cash out of the deal.

Now for the photos!

Bump for a heckuva nice guy and one sharp Kinal. BTW, what's that melted crayola-looking thingy in the last photo?

Spencer always has the coolest basses on hand.

That's a bummer. I know you were enjoying it. Someone is going to end up with a fine instrument.

Yeah it really is Bob but I have to do what's right for my physiology. My hand doesn't hurt near as much when I play 34" scale basses. Getting old ain't no fun at all!

This is a killer bass people built by a very under appreciated luthier IMO.

Thanks Riis! That crayola-looking thingy (that I got from you) is actually on it's way to Croatia. I sold it to a guy here in the states who was contracted to take it with him and fly it to some wealthy collector. That was a cool bass to but it was a 35.4" scale. A bit too long for me these days..............

I've had several Kinals and they have all been killer. Wish I would have kept them. This is just the pickup/electrics combo I would want if I had Mike make me one too.

What's the neck width at the nut?

Looks alot like the one he's building me now, except I got the 34" scale and a semi-hollow body for a lighter weight.

Someone will love this bass!

Sounds like your "new" Kinal would be perfect for me as well.

Thanks for the bump!

This is one fine instrument. Come on people! You're missing out on an opportunity to own a really sweet bass. If I wasn't set in my ol' ways, I would buy this back in a heartbeat.
