OK, here's the bottom line: This instrument is awesome; I am not.
I must have had amnesia or something when I decided to order this, because I had apparently forgotten my Stick experience and that I trip over my own fingers when trying to play touchstyle. My normal fretting hand is fine, but my right hand can't do anything useful.
*grumble*
SO! My loss is your gain. This is an 8-string tap-bass, currently BEADGBEA (cause I like guitar chord shapes, but straight 4ths is only a half-step away on the uppers), 34" scale.
The thru neck is walnut, maple and cherry, with a walnut fretboard, while the body wings are mahogany with maple tops. The entire instrument is about half as deep, face to back, as my last bass guitar was, so it's also remarkably light.
I designed the body shape for the wings to be forward, moved up neckward from the bridge a little for visual balance - other tap-guitars I think look like huge paddles and seem 'off' to me somehow.
I had to move one of the strap buttons once I got it, as my initial placement instruction to Kevin didn't yield the expected rest angle - now it's just perfect IMHO, and is WORLDS better than the belt-hook-and-neck-strap combo on the Stick.
SO - wanna play touchstyle but can't afford or wait for the high-end luthiers? This will make you smile, at $650 shipped CONUS. (Paid $730 a month ago) Best offer is fine but I can't think of any trade bait I'd jump for right now.
