FS Lakland US DJ - Fretless w/ Chi-Sonics (ULTRA RARE!)

I never thought I would sell this bass as it's my "Holy Grail" bass...

This is my darling US Made Lakland Darryl Jones 4 string fretless bass.
  • Swamp Ash Body with awesome grain
  • Vintage Tint finish
  • Beautiful Ebony fingerboard with Birdseye Maple Block inlays! and birdseye maple fretlines
  • Quartsawn maple neck
  • Single Coil Chi-Sonic Pickups (http://lakland.com/ac_j-sonic.htm listen to the clips with flats)
  • b/w/b pickguard
  • Chrome Pickup Cover
The bass has worn flats during its lifetime and has hadly periodic checkups by its maker Carl Pedigo. It has some scuffs since it's been my main gigging bass since I got it brand new from Lakland. I take care of my basses, but they get played very often. There some tiny scuffing on the very bottom of the bass and the very top of the headstock. The bass is still in fantastic condition and very classy looking.

The craftsmanship is absolutely top-notch on this bass and it's an incredible sounding bass. Check out the clips on the Lakland page for a good idea of the tone.. The neck soloed sounds close to a p-bass at least to my ears, but it still gets the j-bass-on-steroids sound really nicely

They made approximately 50 US DJs before changing to the 44-75 with the shorter upper horn. So that tells you a bit of the rarity of these basses... let alone how few fretlesses there are. Getting something comparable brandnew from Lakland would cost probably around $3500-$3700 (MSRP $5500)...

I'm asking $2600 OBO (Shipped CONUS)for this beautiful bass that is truly one-of-a-kind.

UPDATE Bump
Found this video from when I first got the bass:
YouTube - Lakland DJ Fretless

I took about 30 pics of the bass, covering as many angles of the bass as possible. I tried to get each inch, but I apologize for the out of focus shots.

Dropbox - Photos - Online backup, file sync, and sharing made easy.

I just restrung this bass with TI flats and it sounds even better than before. While I'm not a fan of the super low tension, this sound has to be heard.
Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Dang, I've been GAS-ing for a fretless, and I've always liked those DJ basses, but BOTH? Wow. Wish I had the cash.

I'd be willing to do a trade + Cash on some basses... I'm looking for short or medium scale. A Gibson "SG" or "EB" style bass would be awesome, but Cash is a strong component.

I just have to say, I've seen this bass in person and it is utterly spectacular! In fact, I remember watching Carl Pedigo (the longtime head of Lakland's shop) at his bench as he worked painstakingly on this bass's beautiful neck to get it just right before Evan got it.

Also, I've hung with Evan and he's a standup guy. Good luck with the sale!

WHAT a gorgeous bass. I'm lefty and have never played fretless but this is so worthy of a free bump. Chi-sonics have a super smooth vintage tone that works well and fits nicely. And your inlaid fretboard is fantastic. Good luck.

Thanks!
All PMs replied about trades, etc.
I'll take a trade that gets me about $1500+ in cash plus a bass (cash amount depends on bass)
Skyline Laklands would be nice on that end, but I'll consider others. I prefer Rosewood DJs

This has to be the single coolest visual feature I've ever seen on any bass.
