FS: LeCompte ST SS-5 Pinstripes!

Sign in to disble this ad
Price dropped to $1050 shipped in the US

I bought this back in Nov 07 for a retro project that never got anywhere so I haven't played this bass a lot, it's in the same condition as when I got it. Whenever I did play this bass it got more attention and positive comments than any other bass I've ever owned! I've actually had people from the audience question me about it it the middle of a gig (not the middle of a song fortunately).

Poplar body
Maple neck and fingerboard
Lecompte soapbar pickups
Audere 2-band preamp
Hipshot B bridge
Hipshot Ultralight tuners
Excellent condition, no dings or dents

Although the body shape is fairly radical, it balances great on a strap and is very comfortable. The neck is particularly nice on this bass. I have it strung with Sadowsky flats currently.

Includes the original Lecompte fitted gigbag also in great shape.

I'm asking $1150 shipped in the US.

I owned this bass at one time. It's incredibly well made and plays effortlessly. I just can't justify another 5 string or I'd LOVE to have it back!

Played one of these at Bud's shop and it sounded great and balanced well.

I've been asked what the string spacing on this bass is and I'm not sure, it feels reasonably wide like 19mm but I can't accurately measure it.

Anybody?!

I'm pretty sure it's 19mm.

18mm, IIRC. One of the best looking basses I ever built.

I played this bass at an Atl GTG and thought it was a magnificent instrument. Very comfy on a strap, great tone, and easy to play.

I bet it sounds amazing with Sadowsky flats, too.

Yup 18mm (I should've checked the thread before spending ages looking for my calipers!).

Weight is an even 9lbs on the olde bathroom scales.

+1 to all that. It is a killer bass in all respects and this price strikes me as a steal of a deal.

Crap! I really needed this to be heavy.

What is the scale length?

I hope you needed this to be 35" because it is! B string sounds great on this.

Did you design the pinstripes yourself or Mr. Lecompte? Thanks!

I had a pro do the striping. I tried to design the look. I gave him a drawing and said "red and white, please". He ended up doing his own thing, pretty much. He's done three of these basses for me and my motorcycle. I've found it best if I just let him do his thing.

WOW. That is a beautiful bass. Any idea what the nut width is? I am seriously considering this, but with my small hands it looks like it might be a little too wide. Either way though, whoever ends up with this instrument is going to be a very lucky man.
