This is a very rare and unusual bass built by Dobbratz Reiner with LeFay in Germany. Players either love or hate this bass and I'll be the first to admit that it's not an instrument for the faint hearted or the traditional "stand in the corner" bassist.
Here is a link the the LeFay site.

The bass has been completely painted with acrylics by a German impressionistic photographer/artist by the name of Michael Staat. After it was painted, it was covered with a durable clear coat so that the paint stays intact. Quite an amazing job actually. This is one instrument that really
is "art" when you hang it on your studio wall!

The LeFay Midas 5 has three LeFay single coil pickups connected to a custom preamp. The controls are volume, 6 position pickup combination selector and stacked treble and bass. The 6 position switch gives the bass some very usable voices and I find that it can sound a lot like an Alembic but with much more tonal flexibility.
The scale on this bass is 90 cm which equates to 35.45". As a result it has an amazing low end and the B is as good as it gets. Much like a Dingwall because of it's length. It doesn't "feel" like such a long scale bass though and that's because of the way the bridge is recessed so far back on the body.
The sculptured body is an ergonomic dream to play as your right forearm literally fits right into the curve and it's so comfortable to play you have to wonder why more basses aren't built this way.
This bass is a slapper's dream with great attack and wonderful playability. It weighs in right at 10 lbs on my digital scale.
I added a custom set of blue FretFX LEDs and they really compliment the overall look of the bass as well as making it very easy to play on a dim stage.
It will ship in a brand new ProTec Contego gig bag and will be well boxed and fully insured.
SOLD! $1,950.00 shipped and insured in the continental US.
PayPal gladly accepted!
I'm really looking for a cash sale on this and all reasonable cash offers will be considered. I'm not too interested in trades however some of the Nordys and Lulls that have been posted recently would certainly get my interest.
Here are some photos. PM me directly with any and all questions.
