Fake Fender Mary Kay P bass built by myself, here's the list:
-90s squier body, (was black with pink stars when I bought it!) stripped, reshaped to 50s/60s contours (wider radiused edges, bigger belly cutout. Handsanded to get rid of the sharp CNC routs). Grain filled and sprayed with three coats of automotive epoxy sealer primer, sanded between coats. Finished in BASF single stage acrylic urethane in a color I had left over in my shop for automotive work that closely resembles the nice creamy off white/ vintage white that Mary Kay finished basses fade into. Three thin coats, colorsanded and buffed. The grain does not show through like a true Mary Kay bass though-
-Allparts 1 5/8 maple neck, nice flame along the top edge, leading into the headstock. This was a new neck that I bought secondhand, did a little bit of reshaping up near where the back of the neck meets the headstock, and also down where the neck tapers out on both sides into the neck pocket. Stained with tinted gunoil, and sealed up in nitro lacquer. Decal applied under the lacquer. Beautiful thick solid Neck, just like you expect on a 50s bass.
weighs in at 8lbs 6oz, and balanced almost perfectly.

new med D'addario Chromes, just starting to settle in- This bass plays like a dream. Smooth all the way up and down the neck. Tone goes from low and thumpy to pretty bright.(for chromes!...that'll go away I'm sure)
I had started to accumulate parts about 6 months ago that were leading me in the direction of a 50s style bass (gold guard, maple neck-), and than when I saw the creamy colored paint I had in the shop, decided to do up my own version of a late 50s, early 60s maple neck Mary Kay. I'm happy with the results...only, I found out just at the beginning of this month that I might be shutting my shop down at the end of Oct, and I'm starting to stress about making a living. I'm unloading a few basses this month, I'd also be happy to talk to anyone wanting a bass refinished (hint hint)-
$575 shipped in a cheapy new gig bag within conus, paypal is fine (fees.....grunt). I'm gonna try to get a sound clip up in
a couple of days- we'll see what this hurricane does to my plans though-
lots and lots of pics-
