FS: Matsumoku's Electra Long Necker MIJ 70's Fender Jazz Style Bass Sunburst w HSC

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD

Also open to trades for other basses.

I have an older feeler thread mentioning this bass somewhere up here but I can no longer edit or delete it, so here is a new post and this is definitely for sale now.

This is a 1981 Electra Long-Necker 70's style jazz bass in sunburst with a high grade flight-worthy hard case.

This bass was made in Japan at the legendary Matsumoku factory and features lots of that great Matsumomku craftsmanship from the real neck binding, to the inlaid MOP block markers, to the MOP inlaid headstock logo. Just screams of quality.

This bass has the original "ashtray" pickup and bridge covers as shown and is all original. Underneath are the unique OEM pickups which are metallic and have almost a mini humbucker appearance, but I believe they are single coil, not sure. You can see them exposed here:

2271 Long Necker Bass

This bass has a little bit of age-appropriate mojo from use, not abuse. It is actually quite a find to get one in this condition with all the original parts. Plays great though it could use a little contact spray inside. But everything is working great.

My asking price is $SOLD OBO shipped CONUS in the hard case, which is built like a tank and certainly flight worthy. One latch has come off the case but it will be included and is an easy fix.

Pics below. Thanks for looking.

RBM

I have an older version of that. It's the real deal. I agree that these are well made, play good, and have the mojo, a.k.a. Funk.

In terms of build quality, the same or better.

In terms of tone, the same or better. Definitely has the attitude of an older J bass. Has the same pickup placement and electronics configuration so that makes sense. However I would describe this one as "touch sensitive" meaning it has higher output levels than a Fender J IME, likely due to the proprietary pickups being used.

Also noticed it could use a little contact spry on the tone knob but all is working well but no biggie.

Really sounds great.

FWIW:

I also "measured" the neck profile by wrapping a Starbucks napkin around the neck at the nut and 7th frets (couldn't find a proper tape measure) and marked how much of the napkin wrapped around.

I then did the same for my E series 86 MIJ Fender Jazz and my V series 90's MIJ Fretless jazz. Same measurements for all 3. Now given i was not using precision instruments (LOL) there might be some mico variance that I couldn't notice.

But in all this seems to be a normal jazz profile neck.

I bring this up as this was a recent PM question. Hope this helps.

Bump. I mean a MIJ fender would have less build quality and cost twice as much. So let's deal!

Now open to bass trades. Preferably made in japan, USA or Europe. Happy to throw in cash from my end if it makes sense. Thanks.

Bump for a great looking bass. If the neck feels good and you get even close to a classic JB sound, this bass is a steal. The colors are right and it looks like typical quality build. I've seen boutique paint jabs that don't come close to this. Spend an extra $100 on some Dimarzio pups and you have a winner for a song!

edit- didn't see the pup routes. Buy this for a song and turn it into a Berry Oakley bass!
