When I got this, someone had carved , or burnt a flower image in the wood.
I filled it all in with filler, sanded smooth, primed, and painted a vintage cream color
As the paint cured over time, the filler also shrunk a little, creating a slight ghost image of the carving, but it's only visible close up, does not photograph at all and actually looks kind of cool according to those who have seen it and my own biased opinion. Neck pup sounds killer. woody and full, very round sounding. The wiring is all original and is suspect. There are some pops and cracks in the pots and jack. It probably should be re-wired. The bridge pup also makes noise, but it is VERY low. I discussed having it re-wound with a fellow TBer who is a builder and makes pick-ups. I was told 60.00 would get it done and I will share that information with someone if interested, or it can be replaced with any number of mini-humbucker pups. It may also just be a victim of the suspect wiring and work fine with new wiring. I have not tested it. I did gig with it a few times only using the neck pup and got huge compliments on the tone and the look. All original, all the way down to the bridge cover still having the original foam mute in it. The neck and frets are in very good condition and truss rod works freely. I just don't have the time or really the desire to get back into this one, and I have several other basses getting more time than this one ever would, so I will move this little gem to someone else.
