FS: MIJ 1984 Westone Electra Phoenex P - Matsumoku!

Sign in to disble this ad
For sale is my 1984, Japanese made Westone-Electra Phoenex precision style bass made in the legendary Matsumoku factory.

This bass is an absoulte delight to play. Great P bass feel and traditional sound with a slightly less traditional look.

A flattened body with black finish and flat brass knobs, brass bridge and maple neck and fingerboard. DiMarzio-inspired pickup and fender style tuners. "Made in Japan" stamped on the neck plate.

The bass is in overall great condition with just a couple of minor dings and one scuff on the rear of the body as pictured but overall nothing too abundant or serious. Most of the stuff you see is reflection as I took these pics at night under spot lighting.

I currently own and have owned lots of matsumoku basses and can say that they are among some of the best made basses of the period. Great woods, great electronics and great craftsmanship.

This is a great value in any bass at the price let alone such a highly affordable vintage piece. It is sure to make a TB-er happy.

I am asking $230 shipped in the CONUS or best offer. No international sales, sorry.

Pics below. If you have any questions please let me know.

Thanks.

RBM

Hey, do you know if the DiMarzio's came standard on these? I just got an Electra that looks very similar and it too has a DiMarzio.

The pickups are not DiMarzios. They are alinco clones built at the Matsumoku factory which came standard on certain Elctra and Westone basses, Vantage basses, etc. They do look and sound veyr much like actual DiMarzios as DiMarzios were the favorite replacement pickup of the era.

I own or have owned other Matsumoku basses that have actual DiMarzios but it was unclear to me if they were stock or aftermarket upgrades.

Yes, I think that is about right. Not too heavy and well balanced.

Still here for offers, cash or trade. This really is a great P bass for the money, Japanese made, and a little bit more of an eccentric style without being tacky.

Would do a straight trade for a Japanese made Fernandes J or P style bass. If you have anything else Japanese you woul dlike to trade, let me know. I would be happy to keep this bass but I have an Electra X-640 which is the active P/J version of this so this one is a little redundant.

Thanks.
