FS: Modified Gibson SG Reissue Faded bass - shortscale SOLD Went thru a short scale phase so I picked up a Gibson SG Reissue bass (Made in the USA). It played GREAT - low action, fast neck. But I had to change some things: 1) Neck Dive - this bass is notorious for neck dive so I had both strap pin locations moved which helped quite a bit. (Why Gibson never did this is beyond me) 2) The Bridge - the SG came with a Three Point bridge. This thing is horrible when you try to adjust the action of the strings. So I replaced it with Hipshot Supertone bridge. Every string is adjustable now and it sounds great! 3) Pickups - the SG came with mudbuckers. A large one right up against the neck and a minibucker in the bridge position. These pups are muddy and boomy. Not usable at all if you ask me unless you happen to be in a Cream copy band. I replaced these with two more modern pups. In the neck position I installed a Basslines J style pup farther from the neck than the original and in the bridge position I installed DiMarzio MM style pup. The result? Much more usable tones are achievable with this bass now. The bass gets a great midrangey growly tone. I had a custom black pickguard created too. This bass is wonderful for rock/blues/punk styles of music as currently configured. Plays fast and fun and sounds great. But I'm done with my shortscale phase and I need money to fund gas so this bass is going. I've got about $1300 in to it and I'll let it go for $600 shipped CONUS. (Comes with original hardshell case). Pics to follow later but don't wait for that. |

It's a fun bass to play Guy. The short scale and fast neck and mid-rangey growl just come together so well when playing rock/blues/punk music. If you happen to play with a pick at times, it takes to that so well also. Play this thru a tube head like an SVT and the sound is heavenly. That was my setup for a while when this my main bass. What an aggressive, cut thru the band, rock sound I had going on! You know how I'm crazy for low action - you've got one of my basses. This bass plays well like that too but the closer frets on the short scale give you an extra bit of ergonomic lift - no hand stretching required - even in the first position. You can just fly up and down this neck like Jack Bruce. :D The price is just crazy low but GAS causes a person to do crazy things! |
