Thumbs up FS: The Most Awesome "Geddy P" Fender Precision w Geddy Lee Neck & REAL 1962/63 P/U!

Sign in to disble this ad
For sale only!!!!!

Why am I offering her up for sale? The neck is a bit too thin (front to back) for my large hands. That's the ONLY reason!

UPDATE: Priced lowered and Fender Hardshell case now included (case comes with key as well).

The Deets:
Bass is an AMAZING player. MEGA-LOW action. Balances well. Tone is about as good as it gets thanks to a REAL Pre-CBS 1962 or 63 "Black Bottom" Fender P pickup (more on that later). Average weight (I'm guessing 9ish lbs but I can weigh her later). If the neck was not so thin, she would not be going ANYWHERE! This is probably the best playing and sounding P I've ever had.

The Parts:
Fender 50's Classic sunburst body (alder, which many suggest is best wood for tone) - Body has some buckle rash and a couple of dings (see pics)
Fender Geddy Lee Jazz neck in excellent condition
Fender 1962/3 Fender "Black Bottom" Precision pickup - NOT A REPRODUCTION!!!
Fender pots, cap, etc.
A VERY old Leo Quan Bad Ass II bridge with saddles off of a 1977 P (this config works GREAT and looks unique too, NO ISSUES)

Neck pocket is nice and tight. It's like the body and neck were made for each other.

The pickup alone is likely worth several hundred dollars or even possibly over $1000 (see Ebay Link below). If you are interested in saving money, I can swap it for another P pickup, but let me tell you that you will be really MISSING out. The tone is to die for (I'm dead serious)!

As for the pickup, I picked it up a long time ago from an old guy that had it laying around with a few other parts from a 1962 or 63 P he had broken the neck on. I personally pulled the pickup from the body and saw the neck and other parts. It's 100% legit. It's the older version with the dark bobbins. He had gotten the pickup wax potted in the 70's or 80's and I replaced the leads coming off of the pickup as the stock ones were in rough shape when I got it (cloth insulation was deteriorating and copper was starting to show through). The new leads are new "vintage cloth" wire. I also painstakingly took the time to carefully remove the old glue and black foam that had since deteriorated. I also put a cream pickup cover on it. I also still have the original black covers for her which I will include in the sale.

I'm going to just blow this baby out the door and only ask $950 !!!!! Oh, and check out the price being asked for a similar pickup (mine does not have the grounding plate anymore, but that effects nothing functionally)!!! --> eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

If you are looking for the ultimate Precision with a Geddy (Jazz) neck, this is it. It's as good as it gets in my opinion. None I've played do everything so well (super low action, nice phat tone, looks, etc)! Oh and I've had many players come up to me at gigs and ask me where I got the bass and where they could buy one. Then I break it to them that it's a one of a kind. It's quite a conversation piece amongst bassists and guitarists at gigs.

Fender hardshell case now included!

A few questions (I'm VERY interested)

Quad,

I have just a few questions:
  1. Have you been able to get an accurate weight on this bass?
  2. Do you definitely still have the black pickup covers?
  3. Where (approximately) are you located? I'm assuming when you say, "Mason-Dixon Line, baby" you are somwhere near the PA/MD border, which can be anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours away from me.

We can take this to PMs if you are more comfortable doing that!

Thanks, ... Doug ("funkyjudge")

Hiya Doug,

To answer your questions:

1: I'll weigh her when I get back in town this coming Monday. She's certainly not a "heavy-weight". I'm guessing right around 9 lbs. I'm typically pretty good on judging weight. She's a good bit lighter than my Marcus Miller Jazz.

2: Yes, I did find the original pickup covers (black). I'll update the original post in the thread to reflect this.

3: I live about 25 minutes north of Baltimore right off of I-83. We can meet 1/2 way somewhere if you wish.

Thanks,
Fred

Stop making my Precision lust even greater... I like my Warwick but MAN is this tempting. Any recordings of this beast?

I laid down some tracks on this song with two of my P basses. I believe that the one used in the final cut was from this P.
