FS: Near Mint Alembic MK V Signature Deluxe, HSC

Hello TBers!

This is a bittersweet day for me; bitter because I have decided to part with my B-E-A-utiful Alembic bass, yet sweet because I know that she will will go to a loving home.

Alembic MK V Bass
Pictures really just don't do this instrument justice. These pictures tend to make the bass look like it has a greenish tint, but the flamed maple is a glowing golden-yellow in person. I'm no pro photographer, so if there is anything you'd like me to try and capture in close detail just let me know and I'll give it my best.

This bass is in EXCELLENT condition. It is in tip-top working order with unbelievably low action, yet not a buzz on the fretboard to be heard. The only cosmetic blemishes are a few nearly microscopic dings on the headstock and one above the neck p/u. Other than that the bass is, dare I say it, flawless. No belt-buckle rash, no finish cracks, nothing!

Anyone looking at this bass already knows about the amazing quality of Alembic instruments. This baby has curves like you wouldn't believe! The tone is unreal and the sustain is quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever heard. The body is so well balanced and shaped that it really fits the player like a glove. I really just can't say enough about this bass. But enough of talking myself out of selling her! On with the show!

About the bass
Model: Mark King Deluxe
Birthday: 08/10/07
Tob/Back: 5A/3A Quilted Maple
Accent Woods: Purple Heart, Maple
Body Wood: Mahogany
Fingerboard: Ebony
Inlays: Golden Mother of Pearl
Electronics: Alembic Signature
Neck Stringers: 3x Purple Heart

Scale Length: 34"
Nut Width: 2"
24th Fret: 2.5"
Weight: 11.775 lbs

Special Features
Heart Omega cut-out
LED Fret Markers, Amber with Red at Octaves
Balanced K Body Shape with Tummy and Elbow Contours

The bass will come with all of its original paperwork, original custom-fit hard-shell case, straplocks, and case candy. I will also include an unopened pair of D'Addario EXL strings as well as a fresh set of Knucklehead strings on the bass itself. The case is currently covered with stickers, which was an intentional move on my part. I figure that if the case looks old and beat up, the potential thief might expect whatever is in the case to also be old and beat up, and therefor not very valuable. Whether that idea worked or not, the functional result is I've never had to report my baby stolen. The case is still in good condition and is totally functional, and I am happy to remove the stickers at the buyers request.

The serial number is available to serious buyers upon request. I will not publicly post the serial number because there are some folks out there with poor moral fiber who will attempt to use my serial number and pictures in a scam sale. I certainly do not wish to withhold any information about this bass from anyone actually interested in a legitimate sale.

This bass is quoted at $16625 new from Alembic. Take her off my hands for a mere $5000

Please feel free to PM me with any questions. Thanks for looking!

Ooooh. Really tempting. Definitely need to know three things before I take the plunge.
1) string spacing
2) scale length
and most importantly
3) weight

Do you have access to a postal scale or something that's going to give you a accurate reading?

I just played a King Deluxe at the Atlanta Bass Gallery a week or so ago and it was my favorite bass there, so I'm reeling to see this now!

@ Schizoid and swood,

The scale length is 34". The balance-K body shape of this bass sits on your body so nicely that I've never had any problem reaching down to the first frets, and I'm not a particularly tall or lanky person. The string spacing is generous, with 2" at the nut and 2.5" at the bridge. I'll post the exact weight as soon as I can find a good scale, but in the mean time 11lbs seems familiar...

@ Lulu,

At this time I am giving preference to CONUS sales. Thanks!

Okay, if I squint *real* hard, I could MAYBE see paying $5000 for a bass. But, WHO actually buys brand new ones of these at that kind of price?!??!! $16,000???

Well, part of it is the craftsmanship. The stuff Alembic does with wood is pretty special, especially some of the extra cuts that show the laminates. Part of it is the electronics which are still fairly unique to have in a bass. Part of it is is the history of the company. Part of it is the exclusivity. Everyone has his/her own reasons and everyone is going to feel differently about what $16k means to them. That would be pushing it for me, but I could see $8-$10k pretty easy (though I've never gone about 3.5k or so myself).

Please hold this for me. I just bought the winning Powerball ticket, but it won't be official until they announce the numbers on Wednesday. I'll PM you then. Thanks.
