I got this in an estate sale in Laurel, MS which is 1 hour from the Peavey factory in Meridian, MS.
This is an almost perfectly preserved ~30 year old Peavey T-40. It would not be a stretch to say this bass has been played no more than a few hours at most during its lifetime. It is that perfect. I think the strings may even be original. I did not change them, and they are old.
I could find no dings, noticeable scratches, or other irregularities except for one. I'm assuming whoever owned the bass did this, but the initials J H are lightly etched next to the serial number. You can see it in one of the pictures at the bottom of this post. It's not bad and if it really bothered you a luthier could make that go away.
I played the bass and all the knobs and switches work as they should.
I had a local Peavey tech check the truss rod to make sure it wasn't seized up. He was able to turn the truss rod with no issues and did straighten the neck from the many years of sitting in the case unused.
I don't think the case is original as I was told the original cases are molded, but I don't know for sure. The case the bass is in is very nice though. It does have a stain or two on the outside and iis missing the middle latch as you can see in one of the pictures.
I have no doubt this is one of the cleanest and nicest T-40's left on the planet.
Here is the JH that is etched into the back of the headstock near the serial number.
Here is an image of the latch that is broken on the case.
