*** BASS IS TRADED, THANKS *** Thread closed
Up for sale is my recently acquired Nordy VJ5 Modern. #218, first seen at 2010 NAMM, recently acquired from RockBoxBass here on TB. His thread link follows, and you can read his comments about this bass there and see more pics: F/S Nordy vJ5 Modern Quilt Top Brazilian 2010 NAMM UNREAL !!! *****
This is a smokin' bass, excellent 60's jazz vibe in passive mode, with preamp engaged it gives you a HUGE sound, thick and fat but with presence and clarity. Roll the treble up and the tone control off a little and it will cut like a knife without a trace of harshness. So why sell? Well, no sooner had this one hit the front porch than I found another VJ5 that more exactly matches what I'd been looking for, and I really can't keep both. So here's your chance at a very special bass.
Specs:
- VJ5 Modern 34.5" scale
- amber tinted alder with killer quilted maple top (upgrade)
- gorgeous Brazilian rosewood Board (also an upgrade)
- maple neck with a hint of birdseye on neck and headstock
- abalone markers (top and side)
- Nordstrand Big Singles (60's position)
- Nordstrand 2 band preamp, vol/vol/tone/treble on bass
- push or pull vol knob for active/passive
- 9lbs on digital BR scale
- Reunion Blues GigBag
No functional issues - plays like butter, low action, no significant fretwear, neck true, balances perfectly. Carey's pre matches SO well with his pickups, and it is usable and musical at all levels. And the Nordy necks are an absolute delight, one of the most comfortable jazz necks out there, at least for my needs. Only cosmetic issues are a small ding on the back and 2 small dark marks (barely visible) at upper bout edge. Both are visible in pic links below. EDIT: there are also some zipper indentations at the top of the headstock that he mentions in his thread, which I forgot to get a pic of, but he has pics there. I completely forgot about that until I looked at his thread, very minor and (obviously) not very noticeable.
$2400 (USPS MO or Paypal ONLY) takes it, including ground shipping to the lower 48. No international sales - Hawaii or Alaska will be negotiable.
UPDATE: Will consider trades for Sadowsky ash/maple 5's, not much else.
Will be happy to discuss things with you by phone or email - PM me and I'll send you my info.

(ok, I'm joking!)
Is it the maple/blocks/binding board? An ash body perhaps?
Seriously now, your bass looks killer. ,Best of luck with the sale!
There's something wonderful about Carey's necks... I sure agree on that |

There's something wonderful about Carey's necks... I sure agree on that | ash/maple was my initial preference, and the blocks & binding were just icing on the cake.
But based on my experience, you really can't go wrong with a Nordy and Big Singles, regardless of wood choice.

Real stand up guy! | Thanks, bro - that was indeed a very nice instrument. One of these days I'm gonna learn me lesson and stop selling the good ones.
The newest one is staying put, though. And I probably should hang on to this one too - if I can figure out how to swing it financially I just might.
