The only reason I'm selling this 1981 Fireglo 4003 is to make room for a 4001v63, which is arriving tomorrow. Woot!
I bought this from a guy who hadn't played it in years. I had it professionally set up by luthier Chuck Ware, and the action is nice and low. No buzz, but plenty of that RIC "clank"! When I play this bass, I can't help but smile.
The tailpiece has two extra screws on the outside (only the early 4003s had this), so you will never have to worry about that infamous RIC "tail lift".
Since these pictures were taken, I installed a black plastic "treble bezel" around the bridge pickup, which includes a thumbrest. The original chrome pickup surround will be included as well, in case you would like to remove the bezel and reinstall the cover. Most people prefer the bezel, as you probably already know.
This bass has been well used--all nicks and chips are shown in the pictures below. The OHSC is also a little nicked up, but the clasps and hinges all work fine.
This is one of the good ones, folks! Asking $1150 shipped.
SOLD!
