FS ONLY: 1986 Ibanez RB650 Roadstar II/Blazer Hybrid P/J

Sign in to disble this ad
For your consideration is a 1986 MIJ Ibanez RB650 Roadstar II P/J body mated to a vintage Ibanez Blazer maple neck, complete with heart tuners.

This bass was one of my first real basses in the 80's, and it was loved and my main gigging bass until 1991 (when my Stingray 5 came along...).

You know the quality of builds on these basses.

The stock pups have been replaced with Seymour Duncan Basslines many, many moons ago. I do not have the stock pups. All remaining electronics are stock. The output on the "J" pup is not the greatest, perhaps due to my complete lack of electronic and/or soldering skills. Easily fixable, I'm sure.

The stock bent bridge has been updated to a Gotoh 201 high-mass bridge. I do have the stock bridge if anyone is interested, which shows a bunch of pitting and the original saddle adjustment screws are corroded into place.

I recently slapped some chrome metallic contact paper on the pickguard which spiced the monochromatic black on black look up a bit. It can easily be removed. The pickguard is structurally sound beneath, without the common crack near the output jack. The usual pick scratches, but nothing major.

The body has an assortment of dents and dings, however nothing that would affect the sound of this beauty. The neck pocket is structurally intact without any cracks in the neck pocket.

The neck was acquired last year from TimBosby and is in great shape, however, there is a small gouge on the treble side, 18th fret, which really doesn't bother me, but in the spirit of full disclosure, there you have it.

That's about it. This is FOR SALE ONLY. Trade offers will not be responded to. GAS is a cruel mistress, but debt is more so.

Asking $325 shipped $225 + shipping to the CONUS.

No case, but I can probably find a cheap gig bag and lots of packing material.

Why would you want a crappy new GC bass when for similar
money, you could get a great bass.

Nice bass for a beginner or an upgrading intermediate player.
I have a 84 Roadster and the bass totally rocks. Ibby built
wonderful basses in the 80's, so buy with confidence!

Alright Ladies & Gents,

I've got my eye on something locally that I'd like to move on, so here's a price drop to $225 + Shipping to CONUS.

Cheap cheap for a quality Japanese P/J!!!

The price will go back up to my original asking price should the object of my immediate desire go away....

Of the basses I've played from this era... Ibanez has the best build quality, in my opinion. They really were at the top of their game in the mid 80s and I'll fight someone over that...

This is a kick-butt bass that would roll up and smoke a new Squier of similar configuration. And it would beat the price by $100!
(this coming from a guy who has a Squier in the mail, on its way as we speak!)

GLWTS!!! If it had an extra string, I'd rock it!

Free extra bump for a Cure reference and a sweet instrument. I have a Blazer guitar and absolutely love it. I wish I needed another P so I had an excuse to buy this one.

PM replied.

The neck is somewhere between a P (not as round) and a J (not as flat).

Not too round, not too flat, but JUST RIGHT.

I'll try and measure the nut later this week, as well as get other dimensions/weight for it.

Thanks for the interest!

Some additional info:

1 5/8" at the nut

8.2 lbs on the ol' bathroom scale.

Neck is more round than a jazz, but not quite to that of a P.

Here's a photo for comparison (left to right, Squier VMJ, Peavey B-Four, Ibanez Roadstar II).
