For your consideration is a Tom Clement custom Singlecut Jon 6 string bass. A superb display of craftsmanship and playability. I'll let the pictures do the talking. - Mahogany body
- Spalted maple top
- Matching knobs
- Multilaminate neck
- Hipshot hardware
- Nordstrand Big Split pickups
- 34" scale
- 18 mm spacing at bridge
- 9.0 lbs on my digital bathroom scale
Will ship in a ProTec polyfoam case in "like-new" condition. Although Schaller straplocks are pictured, the original nylon strap buttons will be reinstalled before shipping.
She is an absolute stunner and draws attention wherever she goes. Alas, I am not a 6-string player but her beauty and craftsmanship were too much to ignore. I hope she goes to a new home where she will be played as she was meant to!
FULL DISCLOSURE: This bass is 99% perfect. There is a small 1 mm superficial dent/scratch in between the bridge pup and the bridge right above the "B" string, however, due to the highly figured top, it is camouflaged quite well. The only other thing to divulge is that I've written on the shielding foil on the inside of the control cavity cover "Clement #153" plus my signature in Sharpie (for insurance purposes) as there are no other identifying serial numbers on this bass. It shouldn't be a deal-breaker, but just wanted all potential buyers to know.
Here's a link to my photobucket pics: http://s988.photobucket.com/albums/a...%206%20string/
and a link to Tom's website: http://www.clementbass.com/web/Galle...uts/bass%20153
According to Tom, this would be in excess of $2000 to replicate.
Asking $1700 plus shipping to CONUS.
For sale only. No trade offers please.
Due to the unique nature of this stunning instrument, I may open this up to international buyers, but please understand that you will be responsible for all shipping/fees/duties/taxes incurred with this purchase. I will not falsify customs documents and the item will be valued for what it sells for.
If you have any questions, I'll be happy to try to answer them!

1) How does it hang on a strap? Balance has become more important to me in recent years.
2) Does the position of the strap pin being so close to the fingerboard help it to hang with a more accessible angle beyond the twelfth fret?
I recently saw the Friedlander video review of the Clement fretless five and it was very helpful. No time right now to find the link...

I can probably post a pic if you're interested, but I presume it also depends on where you like to wear your bass. For this singlecut, I've had it positioned under my chest and above my pelvis.
Accessbility to all aspects of the fretboard have not been a problem. There is ample cutaway on the lower bout to do soloing (did I mention that the high "C" absolutely SINGS!) as well as chords. It really is easy to navigate around the neck, despite the fact that it may appear large. I think this is probably in part due to an asymmetrical profile that Tom gave the neck (Tom, correct me if I'm wrong).
Here's the link to the Ed Friedlander review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NesfQhGtFQ
Lastly, Tom is an awesome individual to deal with. I'm sure he can answer any questions you may have that I'm not able to.
It pains me to let this bass go, but I suppose it's a good thing that I've got a Clement Singlecut 4 to keep me happy!
Please let me know if you have any further questions! |

Still, an absolutely incredible instrument and a joy to play and behold! If I could justify keeping her, she wouldn't be going anywhere but craftsmanship of this magnitude deserves to be PLAYED, and played often. |

thanks | TRBman,
Thanks for the bump!
The spacing on this bridge is 18 mm center-to-center and does not appear to be adjustable. From what I recall, hipshot A's can be ordered with a particular spacing (Tom, correct me if I'm wrong!).
That being said, the spacing on this bass is a joy and a definite improvement over the 15mm spacing on my Alembic Spoiler. It's quite easy to play and very comfortable at that. Whoever scores this beauty will not be disappointed with the looks, playability, sound quality, and craftsmanship. She'll be sorely missed! |

Can you say whether this is Gaboon or Macassar ebony? I am just wondering how this would convert to a fretless, |

Looks to me like Mac ebony.
As far as a fretless conversion, I wonder if it would be just as easy for Tom to make a new fretless neck...then you'd have both necks for whatever suited your mood! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
