But, for what it's worth... a fellow TBer came over recently and played all my Laklands (mostly US models) and all my other basses... his favorite was this bass (named Shadowfax). The neck pickup will satisfy all your "fat" P-bass needs plus more, while the bridge can handle Stingray tones, etc etc. The mix of the 2 plus the pre's versatility and the added passive tone knob (works active too) gives endless possibilities.
Like I said in the auction... I'd be keeping her if I could!

I also have a single coil Decade (also for sale ), and the Humbuckers are different, MONSTROUS, in comparison.... as they should be. If you know or have had experience comparing active humbuckers to passive singles, then you'll know what I mean. Both are great and "do the job" in certain applications, of course. I play in a hard rock band and a latin/jazz fusion group. I'd take an active 'bucker bass to the hard rock gig, and the passive single coil Decade to the fusion gig.
Hope that helps, LOL.

I am the fellow TB'er who played this recently. I am crushed that I just put down a deposit on another Lakland and can't afford this one.
This bass is definitely killer. The humbucking Chi's just have this grind to them that I am blown away with. It just sounds so thick (especially the neck p/u IMHO). I really don't know what situation this bass wouldn't fit. I just listened to the clips on the Lakland site and it's close but I think the clips are single coils as they sound a little thinner than this bass, imo.
Oh why oh why can't I afford this???? |

she's listed on the 'bay at the moment, I'll copy all the info from there to here as soon as I can... I'm at work, doing this from my phone.

Brand: Lakland
Dexterity: Right-Handed
I would not be selling this if I didn't have 8 Laklands (14 basses total-- JEEZ!!) and a wedding and honeymoon to pay for.
EDIT:* I'VE SHIPPED A LOT OF BASSES, AMPS, and GUITARS (Laklands, Dingwalls, Rickenbackers, US Fenders, a rare Les Paul, Thunderfunk, Ampegs) SO NO WORRIES ABOUT SHIPPING.* I WILL INSURE AS WELL!!!
I have been gathering rare Laklands for the last couple years, not because I'm a collector, but because I've found the best basses on the planet w/ the best necks and sound, and just LUCKILY ended up with some stellar pieces.
This one is special for MANY reasons:
1) It's basically a Skyline Decade 5 string, which is NOT offered at this time, and probably won't be for many years.* A US Decade 5er w/ active pre and humbuckers AND the passive tone control ($200 special option) lists for $5100 ($4900 + $200).*** http://www.lakland.com/prices.htm* I'm asking*about a 4th of that!!!* And DON'T think that you can have a 55-02 converted into a bass like this... the bridge p'up placement is different (as is the neck p'up), which would leave*some nasty routing holes!
2) It has the body shape of Lakland's most popular model... the 55-94 or the Skyline 55-02.* MANY folks don't get along well w/ the Decade's odd shape, THIS bass is a great MORE COMFORTABLE alternative!
3) This bass has an ASH body which is only an option for the $4900 US model Decade.
4) The prototype Chisonic pickups are unique in that they were hand built by Carl Pedigo [Lakland's former (now semi-retired) head luthier], and in his (and my) opinion have better highs than the newer Chisonic 'buckers.* They also have the MM p'up covers which I and many others prefer over the hard, sharp-edged chrome rectangle covers.* And of course they are placed in the special Decade placement which gives them that legendary mix of THUNDER (from the extremely close to the*neck p'up) and CLARITY (from the close to the bridge p'up).* Chisonics are the growliest, most aggressive p'ups ever offered by Lakland.* I've had another 55-94 modified to have 2 Chi-buckers, it's my number 1 gig bass.* Actually... I have 3 basses w/ chisonics, and they're all spectacular!!
5) This bass is equipped w/ all black hardware, which I LOVE!!!* But, if the buyer prefers.. I'll put the original chrome bridge and tuners back on prior to shipping.* UNLIKE any other Lakland, it has recessed straplocks installed.
6) The passive tone control ALSO works while the bass is in active mode adding EVEN more tone control!
*
OTHER SPECS: 35" scale 19mm bridge spacing, Lakland's BEST most versatile LH-3 preamp.* AND it comes w/ a Lakland ABS hard shell case.
*
It has some playwear, a few minor bumps, nothing that affects playability.* Some marks on the headstock are shown in the photo, bass is sold as is.*
