PERPETUAL PRICE DROP- FSO Modulus Quantum 5 w/ LANE POOR & Truss Rod! RARE

Sign in to disble this ad
EDIT: I am now employed again!!! As the great Elwood Blues says: "The Lord works in mysterious ways!" So....the price will be staying FIRM at $1580. I am also looking into getting the neck clear coat issue resolved.

I am now jobless again. This time, I may not be collecting unemployment. No paycheck = bye bye basses. So lets start with my beloved Tune and Modulus Q5.

This is a rare Modulus. I say this because from what I understand, early '99 was when Modulus first started offering truss rods. And late'98 was the last that you could get a Modulus with Lane Poor p/ups. So here you have it! A Modulus with these options was only available for about a 1 year period of time.

Specs:

- Ser # 99007 = 7th bass made in 1999?
- 2-pc Alder body w/ Quilted Maple top and trans red finish
- 35" scale graphite neck WITH TRUSS ROD!
- Lane Poor soapbar p/ups. I believe they're M4.0Ws, but I can pull them to make sure if you wish. They're stock, so they have the Modulus logos of course.
- Bartolini 2-band pre (NTB I believe? Again, I can find out for sure if it's important.)
- Original (I think) Modulus leather (or pleather) gigbag. Has rip on bottom.

This is a players' bass. The top is in excellent condition. The back has a chip that is through the finish. There are clear coat scratches on the neck heel. And it has the not uncommon clear coat chipping off along both edges of the fingerboard. These flaws are shown in the pics in the link.

The tone is loud, punchy, and crystal clear. This can get VERY bright and crisp if you want it to. And unlike some electronics (like active EMGs), this can also achieve warm and mellow. And of course, since it's graphite, there are no dead spots. The tone and volume is amazingly consistent across all registers.

Price: $1600 $1580 + shipping anywhere.

Yes! And this one brought the decade to an end in a great way! After 15 years and many bowed necks, Modulus finally took to the idea of neck adjustability! And it's also kind of sad because this marks the end of Lane Poor's amazing pickups. There's still many out there, but never again will you find an original LP stock on a production bass.

You're killing me with this one. Absolutely killing me. One of my top 5 must-own basses.

Beautiful. I miss my Modules Quantum 5, which was similar to yours, except it was fretless and only had a single Lane Poor pickup in the "sweet spot". I almost regret selling it.

For what it's worth, my neck had no truss rod and it never bowed. I gather this didn't happen to many people.

By the way, Lane Poor pickups are being made again with the same tools and equipment, by one of his former apprentices. Check http://www.lanepoor.com

I've heard of the 'Legacy' pickups from the former LP employee. WarriorJoe here on TB has been keeping close tabs on these new LPs and is playing a part in the testing and supply of them. From what I understand, they'll have most of the quality of the LPs, such as the uber-precise windings, etc. But just not quite the same attention to all the crazy details, like the hologaphic epoxied logos, hand poured/finished casings, etc.. So, they won't necessarily be cheaper quality, but cheaper as in less expensive to produce and manufacture.

As much as I hope these Legacy pickups succeed, I'm hoping they don't lessen the value of the originals (or the basses that came stock w/ the originals)!!!!

I always wondered if new ones have screws holes for both models bartolini/emg and lane poor pups
I'm waiting to see this when I'll receive mine

This modulus you're selling is quiet exactely the one I was looking for, LP+trussroad! I hope Legacy Pickup can customize some pups for me to make it fit like the EMG

This is a rare piece fellas at a good price!

Sorry to hear about your job loss.

I'm sure this bass sounds as sweet as it looks. Good luck with the sale. I only wish I could help you out.

Thank you for the nice words. My situation is becoming more and more common and it's a shame. It seems the only industries and businesses that are 'recession-proof' are food, medical, pharmaceutical, education, and government work. Even then, there's no guarantees! I never thought I'd have career trouble being an engineer. But it's not just manufacturing labor jobs that are going over seas any more! They're working on America's white collar and technical jobs now! I could ramble about my economic frustrations for hours just like everyone else, so I digress.

Thanks for reading and now back to your regularly schedule thread.
