FS Only: Peavey TL5

Selling my long unplayed Peavey TL5. It was recently set up by Detroit guitar tech Mike Koontz, but still doesn't get the love it deserves. I have two more pics at TL5 - a set on Flickr

Just to point it out, the bridge and knobs are brass colored, tuners are black. There are a few dings, the worst of which I have pictured. At one point, there was some fret sprout that poked through the finish, but Mike Koontz did a great job of smoothing the frets. Great shape for a bass from its era...nice enough for me to keep if it doesn't sell within a week or so. Controls are vol, pan, sweepable mid, bass and treble. VFL pick-ups.

Looking for $550 shipped, with case. Paypal echeck is fine. Con-US only, no trades right now.

This is virtually identical to mine. I got my TL-5 in "hopes" of it being a great bass--it's a FABULOUS bass. SO MANY KILLER TONES with this bass--even via DI. The EQ is very powerful. These were about $1800 street originally--$550 for boutique-ish bass. This better be gone by midnight tonight!!

These are "old school" 5's - string spacing is 16.5 (or possibly 17) mm. Perfect for me
Not sure about spacing at the nut.

No, that is the last version of the TL-5 from the early 1990s. The originals have Super Ferrite pickups. I just put an original on layaway the other day. I'm pretty sure TL-5s have 18mm spacing at the bridge. They are nowhere near as tight as an Ibanez.

Well, honestly, it wouldn't bother me if it doesn't move. I could put it into action The Cirrus, OTOH...

I'm not sure of either and I'm not near the bass right now. I'll get some measurements tomorrow.

Beautiful!!!! Quick question 'bout the "vfl" pickups... those came stock with the bass? And what does it stand for?

I know you are wrong, I don't have to think about it. The original TL-5s came Super Ferrites, the later editions have VFLs like Shelly's. They are also 18mm at the bridge. Why don't you check some the old Peavey threads so you have can have something other than my word.

VFL's are same pickups as in the Cirrus top end basses.

VFL stands for vertical flux loading. More about it here: www.peavey.com/assets/literature/manuals/vfl_pickups.pdf

BTW, TB 'er Jim Nazium described a similar era TL-5 he was moving as such: "The neck width is 1 7/8" at the nut, 2 3/4 " at the 24th fret. String spacing is 17.5mm at the bridge". Then again, I saw a post describe them as having 16.5mm spacing. Maybe the earlier (super ferrite) models had 16.5mm spacing?

In any case, I'll measure tomorrow after I locate my scale.

That's cool, I can see 17.5mm, but I honestly don't think they were ever 16.5mm. The the Super Ferrites definitely came before the VFL pickups.

Another TL-5 fan weighing in. These are fantastic basses. My son has adopted mine as the perfect bass for metal

My TL-5 is 17.5mm---perfect for my hands and fingering style.

Why is this bass still here???
