FS: A pair of IBANEZ ROADSTARS, RB680 and RB690, MIJ
If you want the long story, CLICK HERE for the full thread
Up for sale are 2 freshly rehab'd Ibanez Roadstars
1985 RB680... SOLD!
9 lbs, 1 oz
EMG pickups, wired VVT and active, 9v.
Plenty of life in the frets, truss works fine, setup and ready to play.
Nut has a repaired slot for the G string.
Strap buttons are installed with brass inserts and are there to stay. If you need me to change that I will, but if you use a regular strap with no straplocks, you're golden.
As you can see, plenty of dings, scrapes and dents. A lot of nail polish has touched up the bass. But you can also see, it's a 29 year old bass and for that, it looks pretty damn good.
The pickups punch HARD. This has a huge output. I haven't had a chance to play it with the band, but in the office at home, it sounds great. NO NOISE either. Dead quiet electronics.
8 lbs! A featherweight!
Original pickups and 2 band preamp.
More fretwear than the 680, but still in great shape, especially for the age.
Truss works great, setup and intonated, low action.
As you can see, plenty of wear and tear on this over the years as well. A lot of filled chips, not going to lie. But it's 28 years old! In bass years, that's like... 35 or something :D
The neck feels great, though! No rough spots at all.
It had been mounted on another body, then remounted on this. Check the long thread for more details on that, but it's solid and will remain so, as far as I can tell.
The output on this bass is normal, about the same as my Stingray. There is single coil noise, but not bad.
Has Schaller strap lock buttons... I could probably find some locks, if interested.
$200 obo + shipping
Paypal or money order
I can ship whole or take off the neck, that's up to you.
International is okay.
No case or bag included for either... though I do have a tolex Hamer USA case that would fit the 680 nicely for an extra $40
PM if interested and include a zip code for a quote, as well as whether you'd prefer whole or neck off.
Trades could be entertained, but I'm kinda picky and I'm looking to fund more projects like this, so cash is king for the moment.
Damn Red, you come up with some off the wall stuff. These are a couple interesting basses that you just don't see often.
To the top for a pair of black beauties!
I have had a few of these in the past. You simply cannot match the Japanese build quiality which at these prices is a steal. Amazing basses from the Golden Era of Ibanzez, and these are in amazing condition.
I will be watching...
Love this generation of Roadstars - great basses and a good deal at the asking price.
Someone needs to make those heart shaped tuners again!!
Man, you did a killer job fixin' those babies up!
These used to be mine, and since they've the Big Red treatment, I now have to consider buying them back!
RB680... SOLD! And heading back up north.
Price drop! This is a stupid-good bass for the price.
I can throw in a set of chrome Straplock locks with this!
In the 80's i had a rb690. It was the first real quality bass i ever owned. Lots of good memories. I wish i had appreciated it more.
I took this with me to practice last night and WOW, it sounds and plays fantastically. Plenty of oomph, super feel on the neck, a true pleasure to behold.
Don't be fooled by the price! The quality on this is STELLAR!
