FS: Peavey TL-5 (VFLs, 2nd gen), OHSC

I just got this darn bass! I was starting to fall in love, but a mess of car issues has me scrambling for cash, so I have to sell it

Peavey TL-5, made in the USA!
34" scale neck thru
24 Frets, ebony fingerboard
VFL active pickups
3 band EQ with Mid sweep
Maple all over
Has seen its share of use, dings, dents, etc. But structurally sound!
Truss rod works, is set-up and intonated, Ken Smith Tapercore strings.

When I got the bass, I took it apart, cleaned and polished EVERYTHING and fixed the issues that it had (dirty pots, broken solders, bad action, filth flarn filth, etc). Took a good chunk of 2 days to make it shine so nice. Now, it looks and works like it should now!
The bass sounds and plays fantastically. There is slightly more relief on the B string side than the G string side, but that seems to be due to the higher tension of the Low B string. I have the same issue on my Fender US Dlx and it doesn't mess with the playability.
As a maple bodied bass, it has a lot of mid growl and cuts like a chainsaw through the mix... but it can smooth out very nicely with the proper EQ mix. It's quite versatile!

Includes the bass and the case.

$450 $400 $350 + shipping (limited time), USA preferred (very expensive to ship int'l).
Paypal preferred as well.
NO TRADES!
(Got to sell it to have a car that functions, to drive to work, to get money, so I can eventually get more basses.)

Beautiful bass. Wish I had the dough, but I'll give it a bump.

FIRE SALE SALE!!!!

I am in dire need of cash. So if you want this bass cheap, today's your day... but if it doesn't sell, price goes back up.

$350 + shipping.

This includes the good strings now. I don't see any point in putting the old ones on... but those are included.

A rebuilt, cleaned up, US made bass that sounds phenomenal for less than a used Schecter copy of this bass...

(and a note about the urgency and sale... I realized I'm not in dire straits as bad as I thought. This sale price will end THURSDAY, because I get paid Friday at midnight.)

Its because he's being honest. Many sellers do not disclose everything and you end up disappointed with your purchase.

Seems that my bass brother here is disclosing everything. No surprises here.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why some of what I said may be of concern. I just hope that it does make people think that a) the bass is ruined somehow, or b) it's a risky endeavor.

I try to describe every detail I notice so that a buyer would be aware of anything that would be of concern to me, myself. In this situation, I'm guessing it's either the neck relief or the electronics. From experience, I know it's hard to get a reliable shot of the neck, but here's what I got:

As for electronics, they are solid. Peavey chose to use delicate wires, but I went over them and made sure that if they were solid. If it came loose when I was working on it, I redid it right. Fresh solder and wire making contacts.

And just because I didn't mention it in this post, I buy basses and rehab them as a hobby. I'll take something apart, polish up every piece, rewire every pot, improve shielding or ground whenever I can, and I don't sell a bass that I wouldn't trust. You can see from my list of previously owned gear that I've sold basses that I don't want to or can't afford to keep, but I haven't met a bass that wasn't able to be improved.

So in essence, the Peavey here is solid. The B string side relief is a phenomenon that happens to basses of all levels of quality and doesn't effect it badly enough for me to worry.

(I updated the terms of the sale price above, as well)

Rojo is a great guy to deal with and completely upfront with the items he sells. Proceed without hesitation.

I would buy this in a heartbeat if I hadn't got a great Black Friday deal on a new Highway One Jazz.

UGH BUMP! IF I didn't already have one, I'd be all over this!

Where are those guys who want to "TRY" a 5er?

My concerns were mostly related to the neck and the soldering. There are a lot of tinkerers out there who wouldn't necessarily improve things by resoldering connections. I need to do a little more research about the various forms of TL-5, but I may get back to you if it's still there. And then, I've seen a few others in finishes that I personally prefer, but they also tend to have more green in them.

Gotcha. I understand. I've fixed a lot of basses that had some "I'm going to make this better" attempts.
Rest assured, I only improved what was not functioning

Your work is top notch man that Lakland you bought from me was amazing after your methodical modification process.

Too Cool!

I LOVE these TL-5's. It was the LAST 5er I had when I swore off B-Strings. But I PRACTICALY Gave away a 1st Gen for $225.

Too bad Peavey didn't use another name for their UpScale line like Honda/Acura, or Toyota/Lexus, Harley-Davidson/Buell!

Okay, just to let interested parties know:

My financial situation improves tonight at midnight when my paycheck direct deposits. At that point, this bass is going back up in price. Still have to sell it, but fire sale is ending...
(In fact, I don't really need to worry anyway, but I'm honoring this deal until then. It's not like Paypal wouldn't take 4 days anyway.)

Clock's ticking!!!
