SOLD FOR $1700!!!
GAS ATTACK!!!! $1700 (Paypal now accepted but USPS MO would be preferred and will get a free set of new strings- u choose from what I have ) UNTIL THE ITEM I WANT IS GONE OR MY GAS SUBSIDES.
JUST EDITED THE LISTING WITH IMPORTANT INFO, A PRICE DROP, AND MORE PICS. See my post from 08/06
DARKSTAR PICKUP NO LONGER INSTALLED AND DOES NOT COME W/ BASS, but you can order one and drop it right in, the plastic DS pup surround piece will be shipped w/ the bass.
Well, my fiance has finally decided when, where and how she wants our wedding and honeymoon to be... I've got 1.5 months to get the funds!!! Dangit!!
SERIAL NUMBER X 001 ("X" for extra long 35" scale, "001" first and only one built)
There's only about ten 4-76s in existence, inspired by a '76 Stingray and having the correct SR pickup placement. THIS IS THE ONLY ONE TO BE BUILT WITH 35 INCH SCALE (currently set up for B-E-A-D tuning), and probably the only one w/ ABALONE DOTS and ready for the optional DARKSTAR pickup. Jason Scheff (Chicago's bassist) has a 35" scale 4-94, and there may be a couple of other 35" 4 bangers... but NO other 4-76s and they are NO LONGER BEING BUILT. Bass sounds great w/ EADG setup as well.... I LOVE 35" SCALE!!!!
Built by Carl Pedigo (Lakland's semi-retired head luthier and pillar of the Lakland empire) it was his personal bass. I've talked to Carl several times about it. It has seen many gigs w/ him. It's the lightest Lakland I've ever seen, and I've owned 20 or so, and played many others. IT WEIGHS 7.75 lbs using my digital bathroom scales.
I've worked w/ Carl recently to design a Stingray style pickguard for this bass. Never got around to sending the templates to Jeannies. I can include them w/ the bass if buyer so desires.
FEATURES:
Super light SwampAsh body
35" scale BEAD setup
ROUTED FOR Musicman Stingray style pickup but also has screw holes and will accept a Darkstar. DARKSTAR P'UP NO LONGER INSTALLED AND NOT INCLUDED.
Bartolini NTMB-L918 active/passive push/pull volume knob (sounded GREAT passive w/ the DS pup and flats--- sort of a single coil P/Tele bass tone)
Birdseye maple fretboard w/ ABALONE front and sidedots (haven't seen this on any other Lakland) on quartersawn maple neck
Seymour Duncan p'up currently installed for that KILLER Stingray tone that the bass was built and inpired by!
Dunlop straplocks
Comes w/ Lakland's deluxe white hardshell case... has seen a lot of gigs, but is fully functional and in nice shape w/ no tape or stickers.
FREE SHIPPING and INS to lower 48 states
I planned on using and keeping this bass forever!! I hope she finds a good home.
It's a BLACK bass, so every swirl shows... but there's remarkably very few pings and NO paint chips, headstock has no "real" bumps and I can't find any scars on the neck either. Lakland's US fretwire was created from alien technology, stolen from the Roswell crash site and can stand up to nuclear blasts!! That's a joke, BUT their fretwire is super strong and the frets on this bass look GREAT and need no work at all!! BASS IS 100% FUNCTIONAL, but since it's used, it's sold as is.
I'VE SHIPPED A LOT OF BASSES, AMPS, and GUITARS (Laklands, Dingwalls, Rickenbackers, US Fenders, a rare Les Paul, Thunderfunk, Ampegs) SO NO WORRIES ABOUT SHIPPING.
PRICE DROPPED FROM $1999 to $1949 to $1899 to $1750 shipped/insured to lower 48 US states (firm USPS Money orders only)
MAY consider trades if my other basses continue to sell: Pedulla Pentabuzz, Lakland 5ers, possibly a Roscoe 6er..
Ask any and all questions :-)
thanks,
JJ

The MM p'up surround was made by Carl.

I should have watched or asked the tech who installed the MM pup about the route. I assumed that the Darkstar required a larger hole... WRONG. The bass is PERFECTLY routed for a MM p'up! Carl had just covered all the DS pup's mounting screw holes (see pics) w/ the piece of black pickguard material. If finances allow me to keep the bass, I'll have it refinished or just do a cheap fix: fill the holes w/ toothpicks, shave them off flush, and touch them up w/ a black sharpie... voila!!!
Here's a pic of it NAKED... of course the flash makes the holes standout A LOT more, they'd be nearly invisible to an audience.

The flash makes it look lighter colored than the bass, but it's NOT.
Here's a pic showing the 2 sets of screwholes. Again, the flash makes them look WAY more visible!
Here's 2 shots showing the pickguard templates. Ignore the haze, the bass was cold and the moist morning air was condensing on the black paint. First, the symmetrical pickguard template, try to imagine abalone or black/white/black.
and, the assymetrical one...
