FS: Red Cherry Lakland AJ Fiver/Sadowsky Pre!
Priced to MOVE: $975 shipped to lower 48 (I hope you live close to me)
Beautiful AJ made in 2011.......Plek'ed and ready for action.
Standard Lakland PU's BUT equipped with a Sadowsky Pre!
No issues--- I can give you some former TB owners............if you want their opinions, etc.
Bwest9 and takhammer have owned this one.
Not mint but close. No scratches, dings, dents, etc.
It does have finger scuffs around the PU's, normal for a bass that's a few years old that has had some playtime on it.
The Pre cavity has been shielded with copper foil, professionally done. The AJ's come standard with MK-1 pre's somewhat similar to the 5501's...........the US made ones come with the Lakland-hanson pre's. You'll find the Sadowsky one to be loud, powerful, and full of pure jazz tones. It's better than the USA Lakland AJ's. Do I need to remind you that a jazz bass don't get much better than Sadowsky and Lakland, HA! Don't hate me Fender people!
I'm so used to my old 5501, that I just don't play this one.
Plus my 16 year old car quit and my house got broken into.
I need cash more than one more Lakland.
Sweet Lakland bump! When it rains it pours, right? Sorry to hear about the break-in...I hope they catch the SoB's
Beautiful color, 9.5 lbs, the only weakness in this model is the MK I pre and that has been taken care of. The stock Lakland PU's are excellent. They use the same pu's in the Joe Osbourne and the DJ models. Make me an offer and you might be playing this one next week-end! OH yeah, I will ship in a Hardshell case and pack it really, really well.
Does the preamp have the VTC ?
The pre is as follows: 1)VOL: 2) BLEND: 3) Active/Passive tone 4) Stacked Bass/Treble
So yes, tone works in active or passive mode. It's almost like having 3 bands since you can dial/fine tune with active/passive knob while in active mode. To go from active to passive or vice-versa, the 3rd knob is push/pull
I really never play passive, if you wanted to go passive, why pay for an expensive pre?? The batteries last and last for these pre's. I used to use an Alembic pre and changed batteries all the time.
A lot of pre makers are now seeing this as useful and are incorporating it into their pre's I'm sure Sadowsky prob has other config with his pre's but this one works quite well in the 4 knob layout that the AJ is equipped for.
We call this "The Big Lakowsky" configuration. I have it in a 4 banger and love it.
thanks Cory for the kind words.........and yes Labowsky is a great name........Lakland and Sadowsky make a great team........kinda reminds me of some NBA duets..........maybe some of you remember Jordan and Pippen!!!
Looks like this one is sold and heading to Missouri!! I will keep you posted if something changes!!
A penny for your thoughts kcandme...........the bass is on its way to Missouri..........I have not closed the thread until the bass arrives safely. Because it was sold with a Money Order........the process is going a slower than Most TB deals.
This bass is gorgeous and the Sad pre is the real deal for those of you undecided.......they're worth the extra money. After all, isn't a great tone one of the main reasons you buy a bass?
I seen this, or one like it, for sale a while ago. But I didn't know nuthin' about 'em.
Then I played a Lakland.
Now I'm kind of watching for them.
I like the looks of this one and yes tone is a big deal.
For me, it's mostly about how it feels in my hand.
These Lakland necks are pretty nice.
Congrats to the new owner!
To be honest all the lakland necks are about the same..........the 5501, 5502, the JO, the AJ..... I'm speaking of Skylines.........they do vary from year to year......kinda like Fender.......some are a thinner front to back, some more rounded. The DJ is more like an MTD....with a flatter fretboard feel. This one has been plek'd, so the playability is super, super nice. However the older Korean necks seem great to me also, and that was before the plek thing. If something were to go amiss with my buyer, I will be reposting out the future. I want to make sure he approves after the bass arrives. I would want someone to do the same for me.
