For sale is a modified and refinished Wishbass fretless bass guitar. From its distinctive hand shaped body, through neck and open headstock this bass is designed to be earthy and organic, free from the normal metal (bridge, truss rod) of conventional bass guitars.
I say 'refinished' because a standard Wishbass come with a very basic finish and set-up and I have invested considerable time with this bass to get it into the condition it is today. This has included re-contouring, re-shaping, filling and sanding as well as the final finish itself and replacing electronics and hardware.
I refinish Wishbasses for folks but I also occasionally buy one to refinish and then sell and this bass is one of those! A Wishbass like this custom ordered would cost you at $445 shipped from Wishbass, but of course while playable that would be in its unfinished condition.
My basic refin, without the added options this bass has, currently runs at $250. With optional tone control, side jack, ebony nut and bridge you’d be looking at over $150 worth of options!
If you are looking at this item, then you probably know a little about Wishbasses, some of the myths and a lot of the upside! If you don't then I'd recommend that you do some research before you bid. The Wishbass Club here at TalkBass.com is a good place to start for information. I have also posted build photos of my refinishing work at
www.davesbassplace.com (click on refinishing)
Note: this is not a production bass guitar, it is a one-off, hand-made bass; no two Wishbasses are alike. You should also visit

The body of the bass is Cherry with some great markings. The five piece though neck is African Mahogany, Maple and Purpleheart. The fretboard is Jatoba (Brazilian cherry) and has been leveled, radisused (20”) smoothed, polished and finished with fretboard oil.
The body has been reshaped, particularly around the lower horn, which was very pointed making it hard to rest on a knee. I’ve also ‘cut’ a 'belly curve' in the back and slimmed the top of the body where your forearm would rest.
The finish on the body, neck and headstock is a Tru-Oil hand rubbed finish which has been applied to a high gloss (lots of coats!). On top of that is a coating of finishing wax.
A side jack input has been installed and new electronics have been fitted, which include a tone control in addition to the volume pot. These control the EMG Select Jazz-style pick-up, the tone control allows you to wind back some of the natural highs of the EMG. The cavities are shielded with copper tape. A custom made ebony nut and bridge complete the options on this bass.
I’ve refinished quite a few Wishbasses now. My main aim with this one is to give someone without either the time, energy or skill to attempt a refinish on a Wishbass by themselves, the chance to own a refinished bass and to do so at a price lower than cost and for the same price as a custom order of a un-finished bass. This bass will give you immediate access to a very nice Wishbass with nice wood and great playability and tone.
Anyway, I am sure someone is going to love this bass and for sure it will be a conversation starter piece wherever you take it. Of all my basses the Wishbasses are always the ones people are drawn to first!
