FS: Rob Allen Solid 4

Sign in to disble this ad
2009 Rob Allen Solid 4 - $2775 - includes shipping to lower 48

34" scale
9.5" radius
swap ash body w/lacquer finish
quartersawn maple neck
Brazilian rosewood fingerboard
Hipshot drop-D tuner
Rob Allen hard shell case

I received this Solid 4 directly from Rob in April '09 and it's my favorite solid body bass. I play my RA fretted MB-2 90% of the time and with a fretted Deep 4 on the way I know the Solid 4 will get even less playing time.

I take great care of my gear and this bass is in like-new condition with two exceptions. A defective strap wore away 1/4" on the bottom rear of the body where the E string comes through the back (see last photo). It also cause a pinhead sized "ding" on the front of the body (not visible in photos) that didn't remove any of the finish. I'll be happy to provide as many photos as required by any prospective buyer.

The price of a new Solid 4 with these features is $4200.

For sale only. Ships to US lower 48 only. No PayPal.

Although I have zero feedback on TB I have a perfect 93 feedback on eBay, also as JxBass, including the purchase and sale of high-end and vintage basses and assorted amps and cabs.

What I find interesting is how "related" my RA instruments are in their tone. Granted, they're both fretted and both have a Solid 4 pickup The Solid 4 can definitely get "growlier" than my MB-2. MHO, of course.

Very nice! This is a very special instrument.

(if you could actually find one, the italian tortoise shell pickguard on this bass might cost you more than some basses)

Now to find the funds!

I would be interested in buying the fretted MB-2 when the Deep 4 arrives.

Holiday bump. A decent level of interest and a couple of possible deals in the works but still available.

ROB ALLEN SOLID 4: Relisted, Repriced, and Re"NEW"ed

I'm relisting my Solid 4. I closed the thread while it was in the hands of my local and long-trusted professional luthier. Aside from cleaning, polishing, and performing a setup, he repaired the small gouge on the rear of the body, at the base of the string-thru. See before and after pictures below. The only visible flaw on the bass is the (toned down) scuff that remains on the string plate. I hate to use the phrase "like new", but it doesn't get much closer.

Did I mention a price drop? Now $2500 shipped to Lower 48 only.

See initial post for other details and pics.
