For sale is this near mint fretted Roscoe SKB-3005. I purchased it from another TBer in 2009. It was supposed to be a temporary bass until I had a custom bass made. I liked this bass so much that I ended up putting off the new build order for two years. This is an extremely versatile bass with many tone shaping abilities.
This bass has been gigged about 50-70 times and about as many rehearsals. At home I primarily practiced on my fretless. It has been kept in air conditioning about 11 of 12 months a year and has never been rained on at a gig. I've had the action and neck adjusted by a professional/ nationally known guitar tech, and it's been a beautifully playing instrument. The only reasons it is not completely mint include: minimial fret wear[Edit 12/5/12: With a closer look, there is no fret wear. The frets look 'polished' where the strings touched the frets. There are no indentations on the frets from the strings], the smoothing of the back of the neck due to my left thumb, minimal surface oxidation at the body/neck screw heads and added Schaller strap locks. There are no scratches or dents.

Looks like the last knob is stacked, so I'm going to guess this has the OBP-3. Probably worth confirming for the ideal buyer. Simplest way - is the bottom knob a midrange boost/cut control, likely with push/pull for frequency?
Good luck with the sale - the Nord/Aggie combo with ash is a really popular way of adding serious bark to the traditional Roscoe tone. I'd love to hear this one! |

Jerry: Thanks for the clarification on the preamp. It is the OBP-3. And yeah. "Serious bark" is a good way to put it. The first time I brought this to a gig, my guitarist said, "Wow. That's got more balls than a Christmas tree!"

BTW: I received a request for clarification about the "fret wear" I mentioned in the original post. I looked at the bass again and took pictures for the person who made the request. There is no fret wear. If you pull the strings away, the frets look "polished" where the strings touched the frets. There are no indentations on the frets. |

The Aggie sounds good with the Nord DC P/u's. The Bart pre is a bit more compressed sounding while the Aggie is more aggressive sounding. Still, both good preamps and both have the push/pull mid switch. I've only owned one Roscoe with the Aggie 3-band and Nord DC's but as I remember it sounded real nice.
Regardless though it shouldn't be a deal breaker Roscoe could build you up a Bart 3 band for less than the $200 and you could get ~$100 for the used Aggie 3 band. Simple transplant too.
Beautiful Roscoe Bob! Had this one been available a few months ago I'd have snatched it right up!
