FS: Sadowsky Metro UV70MW5 Now $2,175 Shipped CONUS

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Folks,

CLIFF NOTES
For sale (only) is my Sadowsky UV70 five string bass. Eye candy first:

Price is $2,300 + shipping on your dime.
PRICE DROP - $2,175 SHIPPED CONUS

SPECS & HISTORY
This bass was purchased new from Gelb Music in Redwood City, CA, on December 26, 2009. (Yes...it is just under three months old.) Serial number is M3912. Specs below, but please visit Sadowksky's website for more detail (The UV is the second one down):

Body: Ash, full size.
Finish: Transparent white.
Pick guard: White pearl.
Neck: Maple with white binding; maple fingerboard with white pearl blocks.
Electronics: Sadowsky (duh!) HC's, two-band pre with VTC.
Case: Sadowsky Ultralight
Strings: Cleartone nickels.

The bass is equipped with Dunlop straplocks. The original screws & pins will be included in the case, along with the wrenches and Sadowsky paperwork. Also included is a white pick guard.

CONDITION
Forced to put a number on it, I'd say 9/10. The reason? Full disclosure....there is a ding in the body, at the bottom of the neck pocket. Here's a pic:

Completely through the finish, no damage to the wood. I was obviously distraught when this happened. The neck was removed to drill for installation of the Dunlop screws, and somehow...boom. No structural concerns or any issues with playability. I'd like to say it's only noticeable if you're really looking for it, but that's obvious...and I understand it's an aesthetic concern even if it has no effect on the sound of the bass.

Otherwise, the bass is in near-new condition. It has been on four gigs and one recording session. It looks as good as it sounds, and it sounds awesome (more on that in a second).

MORE PICS
Fresh out of the oven, taken within the hour of posting:

SO...WHY...?
...am I selling it if it's so awesome? One big reason...the size. I thought I could adapt to this one physically, but that hasn't been the case. I've got some shoulder and back issues that will take a while before they're corrected, and as much as I dig the sound of this bass, it's just not comfortable to wear it for any length of time.

The sound? Amazing...very punchy, ample focus, and typical wicked Sadowsky happiness. The playability? You kiddin'? It's a Sadowsky. If you're okay with the full sized body, well....it's a Sadowsky.

So, typical sob story, my loss = your gain, yada yada. Obviously I'm not throwing this out at a crazy bargain, but the feedback I've gotten points at $2,300 being a very fair price. While I did get in just under the price increase curtain, I paid $2,805 + sales tax...plus a few extra Samolians for the pearl guard and strap locks. Wah wah, I know, I know... Anyway, I wanted to offer some logic behind the sales price.

TERMS
Probably goes without saying, but I'd love a local (SF Bay Area) sale...that way you can see and play the bass, and we can trade wood, metal, plastic, & fabric for twenty-three Benjamins. Otherwise, I'll accept PayPal (while happily listening to your alternative ideas). Shipping will be on your dime - UPS Ground, insured for $2,300 - and I will have the bass in its case, well-packaged by my local music store.

There we have it - thanks for your time and energy in reading this really long post. If you've gotten this far, hopefully it means you're interested in the bass...if so, let's talk!

White UV705s are far and away the best looking Sadowskys made, IMO. Even if they didn't sound good, I would love one just to stare at it.

Thanks, folks! PM's responded...

One fellow had a question about international shipping. I spaced putting my usual "CONUS only" disclaimer in the original post. Honestly though, as long as everything is on the up-and-up, and doesn't require significant extra work on my end, I'm happy to discuss it.

Thanks, Joe!

Ok, lots of PM's from international folks. Thank you for your interest - I'm certainly grateful. I am definitely hoping for a domestic sale (if not local, to avoid shipping entirely), as the international shipping process appears to be difficult. For the record, I'm still happy to consider international shipping. However....

The bass is sitting happily in its case. I will put this case in a form-fitting box and seal it with a generous amount of shipping tape. I have the luxury of UPS and FedEx pickup/delivery at my day gig. As long as my shipping effort involves not much more than printing a label and handing over the box, I'm game. Beyond that...I won't disassemble the instrument and I won't pretend to be shipping something other than a Sadowsky bass. Shipment will be made after payment clears. I hope that helps clarify things...and I also hope I'm not coming across like a jerk.

Finally...thanks for the offers, but no trades.

Bumpopotamus.

Thanks for the comments and the PM's. Lots of trade offers, but (obviously) no bites as yet on an outright sale. Probably muddying the waters here, but I wouldn't be opposed to the right trade. Essentially a very similar sounding instrument with a smaller body. Definitely ash/maple, five-string Jazz, active electronics, yada yada. Probably not Sadowsky. I've played a lot of MV/RV/MS/RS basses that haven't spoken to me like the UV with its wood mass/pup placement. In any case, the caveat: a trade would have to be local...you try mine, I try yours, we go from there. If that's you, let's talk.

One more enticement...$100 discount for a local pickup. Save me the time to box, tape, & ship...along with transaction fees, and I'm happy. We trade $2,200 cash for a way-cool Sadowsky, and everybody's happy.

Beautiful bass and exceptional playing, Jerry. This is a great deal for someone to get that vintage Sadowsky sound from a standup TB'er! Good luck with the sale!

I have a similar bass (mine is natural). It just sounds great. Don't hesitate.

If any of you are on the fence here, then just do it. You won't find a better bass than a Sadowsky and you won't find a better guy to deal with than Jerry. He takes great care of his stuff and is as honest as they come.

Jerry, bump for a great bass and a quick off topic question: if you do GB work in the SF area, do you know of a Randy Odell on drums who does the same??
