I got this baby as part of a trade recently. Would love to keep it because it's
AWESOME but my over-sized monkey arms feel differently about the 32" scale
What is it?
A 1980 Aria Pro II TSB-650 - made in Japan! (Matsumoku I believe.)
Why it's awesome:
-Neck-through with a multi-laminate neck
-Short-scale (love the idea of it - I'm just too big to make it work)
-Rosewood fingerboard with pearl diamond inlays
-Brass nut: (looks like 1.75" but feels very comfortable.)
-Cream plastic rectangular pickups with exposed pole pieces - they sound
BIG and
PUNCHY. Lots of snap to 'em too.
-4-in-line headstock! Most of the basses in this series had the 2x2 which doesn't look as cool as the 4-in-line - in my humble opinion

-Heavy brass (?) bridge
-Only about 8.6 (give or take) pounds
-It just oozes cool. Tony Butler from Big Country played one! Here's a link to a video of him playing "Fields of Fire" live in the early 80s - dark brown version of the same bass:
Big Country Fields of Fire ( Live the tubes 1983 ) - YouTube)
-It says
THOR-SOUND - and that's
AWESOME
Let me be clear:
This bass has lots of mojo. The finish is banged up and chipped on the front (there's a significant area of finish wear above the rear pickup) with various nicks, dings, chips, etc in other areas of the bass. If you hate wear and tear - do not buy this bass. If you like a good helping of cosmetic-only mojo, you'll like this bass. Tuners are shiny but bridge is a little worn. Generally I *hate* wear and tear. But on a funky old early 80s Japanese bass like this, it just enhances the character

Structurally it's totally sound - frets are pretty good, action is low, nut is solid, and most importantly, the sound is big and groovy!
Let's say
$475 $425 $400 + shipping o.b.o. for starters. Lower 48 only for now. I may consider international shipping if I don't find a domestic buyer. No case but it will come with a cheap gig bag and be securely packaged.
Pics!
