I have way, way too many basses, and a good number of them are Skjolds. I currently own 7 Skjolds, and I'm super happy with all of them. But even a collector (nut!) like myself has to make room in the stable from time to time, so I'm putting this fine bass up for sale.
This is the very first Exotic Custom 5 that Pete built. I am not the original owner, but after I bought it, I brought it to Pete, and he gave it some tweaks and TLC, including new pickups, and a complete refinish.
It has a flamed maple body, with a crazy maple burl top and back, with bloodwood between each layer. The neck is a 13-piece (mostly maple), if you count all the accent stripes. Fingerboard is pau ferro. Pickups are EMG dual-coils (series/parallel option for each pickup), and the preamp is also EMG. The Hipshot hardware is a mix of gold and black, with inset straplocks.
The bass plays great, and sounds great. Strong mids, with a bit of bark, but very tweakable from a tone perspective. I'm not normally a big EMG guy, but the electronics really work well in this bass. The neck is a little thicker than Pete's current builds, and maybe more in line with a modern Fender 5-string neck profile. Being an earlier bass, it is different in many ways from Pete's more recent builds, but when he gave it a refresh several years ago, many improvements were made. Still, in light of this, I am discounting the price to $1,850, shipped in the lower 48. The price also includes a generic, but decent, hardshell case. Weight is 10.0 lbs.
Not super motivated to sell, but I'd love to see this go to someone who will play it more than I am currently.
