I really wanted to try one of these out, so I bought one online. I hated the tort guard, so I painted it with Krylon plastic spray paint. I added a Basslines Blackouts active stacked tone control. The controls are vol, vol, vol, stacked bass/treble. There is a mute switch as well. Bass is in excellent condition with a few tiny nicks here and there. It is a very versatile instrument with the unique pickup combination. I tend to prefer the sound of the humbucker with the P pickup and just a slight bit of the jazz pickup mixed in. It plays very much like a jazz bass, with a similar feel to the neck. The neck has a smooth finish on it, not a heavy sticky poly finish like some basses. A standard Fender/All Parts neck fits the bass as well. The action goes low and everything functions as it should. I have read a review on TB about someone who had an issue with the neck on his Spear bass being soft or something odd. The neck on this bass is similar to any other jazz bass I have played. There are no issues with it at all.
The picture shows basslines pickups in the bass. THE BASS COMES WITH THE STOCK SPEAR PICKUPS ONLY.
If you are interested in the Basslines pickups, ask me and maybe we can work something out.
Ships with a gig bag.
